ABSTRACT: Most previous investigations of dissociation of polyatomic ions have bmn
performed with the aid of conventional mass-opectrometers, which are not suitable
for precisfa quantitative mejurements. In the present work dissociation of water,
ammonium, inothane, jethylej , ad propane ions as a result of collisions with gas
molecules was Investigated b means of a special double mass apectrometer (S.Ye.Ku-

tions were evaluated for Single Ion-molecule encounters by tho formula a = r*kt/IP4

cross seations wore measured for mothaneions in encounters with air and deuterium
molecule,s and for ankmonium and water ions in encounters with air molecules. A
group of typical cross section versus ion energy curves are shown in Fig.2 of the
EnclosurD. (The data for other ions and molecules are also presented.) The ox-
perimental results tme discussed in considerable detail. Thus, the cross section
variatioas as a function of ion energy for ions with an equal number of hydrogen
atoms ar-D similar. The total cross section decreases with decrease in the number
of 11 atans ir. the initial ion. The dissociation spectra are reminiscent of the
mass-spe---tra of the corresponding molecules. With increasing energy the cross sec-

TITLE: What 11nd, of a Glass Furnace Should Vie Have? (Kakoy dolzhna bytt
steklavarennaya pech?)
POLIODEALt Steklo I Keranika, 1957, Vol. 14j No. 1, PP. 1.0-11 (U.S.S.R.)
ABS'MACTs A rebuttal is made of No YA. Suvorov's article plubliBhed in No. 1, 1956,
of this Publication regarding a new design of a glass furnace. In
Suvorov's opinion, this furnace would yield over two tons of glass
in a single ruti. In the opinLon of the author of this article, such
yields of glass are at the present tima unattainable in the Soviet
indust-ry and it is doubtful that they could be attained with Suvorov's
furnacoh for several reasons., namely: the design of Suvorov's furnace
indicates that it would lead to the increase in glass impurity., poor
diatheMancy, low glass temperature and an excessive foam formation
which ims the case with A. A. Sokolov's furnace of a similar design
tested at the Kaluga glass plazt. Concluding the article, the author
sees mi advantages of the above mentioned furmice over the existing
furnaces used at present by the glass Industryo

PERIODICALs Doklady Akademii nauk SSSR, 1958,Vol 120,Nr 4,PP 704-707(US'SR)
ABSTRACTs In the real Banach space E the author considers the equation
dX , f(t,x) 0 < t Ux - x B
7t 0
and he investigates continuous solutLons satisfying the initial
condition
X(O) - X0
Without investigating the question of existence, the author
formulates 3 lemmas and 3 theorems on the uniqueness of the
solution; here well-known results of Osgood-Tamarkin, Rosen-
blatt-14agumo-Perron, Zwirner etc are generalized. Specializing
E there arise theorems of uniqueness for infinite systems of
ordinary differential equations, for integro-differential
equations etc.
