It is emphasized that it is P;ssible to determine the composition and consequeiAly the real properties of individual nicro-objects of the metal, and consequently that it is possible to go over from average statistical results to a recognition of the Card 1/1 local properties of the matter. - 37 - i `P:.: ; ~[J, , ;.. ; z , . - I , . ; I I . . :.; ~ u ! The initial metals were purified by evaporation of the impurities or by vacuum distillation and the sub- sequent refining by zone melting. From the indium and antimony thus obtalned, InSb was synthesized in vacuum or argon-filled ampoules. Three zone-melting ver- sions were applied to the InSb compound by using original equipment. The middle part of the Ingots was obtained with a purity degree of 1.8 ... 3.7 - 1.016 Ion- ized atoms per cm3 after 15 - 23 zone passages. A study of microstructure and Card 1/2 S/I InSb semiconductor compounds for magnetorneter pIckupri A061/AI26 microhardness revealed the effect of zone melting on the homogeneity of the mate- rial. The values obtained for-the electric resistivity and the Hall congtant fully fit the conditIons of magnetometer pickup fabrication. The initial materials wore submitted to purification: the tellurium by zone melting, the others by chemical and electro- chemical methods. Tables and curves are given which characterize the tellurium purification process (initial admixture content, rate of volatilization, fusion conditions ,. admixture distribution in the final ingot, etc.). Phase diagrams of various alloys and thermoelectric characteristics are analyzed. Microphoto- graphs of specimens are given. As a result of the investigation, optimum condi- tions for preparation of alloys are determined. There are 31 references. [Abstracter's note: Complete translation] N. 3. SOURCE: Academia Republicii Romine. Revue Roumaine de metallurgie. ;i ABS7RACT.- The relationship between the resistivity of indium and the concentra- tion of impurities was investigated in order to establish a quick and easy method of purity assay for samples too pure for chemical or spectral analysis. Indium of extreme purity is needed for the semiconductor industry. Indium of 99.998% -puritywas obtained by applying the methods of cementation,, electrolysis of tydrot loric acid solutions, vacuum distillation and repeated zone refinl4j~ with Card 1/2 L 18780-63 ACCESSION NR: AT3002462 forced cooling. A phenomenological relationship vas deteradned for the ratio of the resistivity at room temperature to the resistivity at liquid nitrogen tempera ture and the concentration of impurities (by wbight) Ct PM-K / PDO-K = 1, 48 . log + 2,15. If this equation is presented graphically., then the concentration of ivWurities is easily deter;dned by Mking resistance measurementa at roon and Uquid I nitrogen temperatures. In agreement with earlier quoted literature a siguLficant correspondence between the two effects has been observed both with respect to changes with electric field dependence and in the spatial distribution. Tho crystals used had lamellar surfaces (perpendicular to crystallographic lo" axis I of about 1 =2, thickness of about 5 ams and a resistance of the order of 109R . The levels of the main centers (F-centers) And of the secondary centers (M-center's),, and their formation and development under irradiation vere studidd; likewise the F- and M-centers'in 1ZbCl-KCl mixed crystals. The exo- electron Procedure offers a number of essential advantagesover the other e)'Meri- mental procedures for the study of color centers (absorption tbermoluminescence, -Card A L 14387-63 ACCESSIONV: AP3001732 ribotoconductivity, etc.) in addition to the possibility Of replacing these A me-thods. Exoelectron emission measurements need no preparation of mingle crystals, as in the case of absorption; no activators need be present, sucb.as are often indispensable In thermoluminescence measurements, no contacts b6ve to be established In the mbotoconductivity method4 etc. But they also bave a number ofpeculiar disadvantages. The location of the Tfiaxima depends unpre- dictably upon the speed of temperature increase, the phenomenon can be studied.-.'- in only one direction,.and one cannot intervene directly vitb a specified beat energy without passing through smaller beat levels...The'position of the maxima is ctianged by heating because of the fluctuations of the crystal lattice para- meters and the numerator characteristics; etc. But the method is much more Den- sitive than.the optical-absorption method. In general, there seem to be pros- pecto that exoelectron emission spectrometry will become In the next few years J a procedure commonly emplo d in the physics of solids for determining energy 'ye i levels in crystals with electron trapping centers, '.'I thank Herr Acad. The study shows that the dichrosim of the alkali halides is clearly reflected in the anisotropy of the photoemission stimulated by polarized light. The results obtain- ed by a new experimental technique are discussed and compared with those obtain- ed for anisotropic color centers by conventional optical methods. It Is believed Co,d 1/2 ACC NR' AP7001970 that the new method for the study of anisotropic color centers may provide some information on their orientation and symmetry and thus may help to verify thle validity of the corresponding models. The measurements have been performed upon a fatigued sample (after successive intervals of approx. 2 X HP cycles of rotative ", ion) and a nonfatigued control sample, intro. duced within a nizignetic circuit, which is closed by 2 sliding tes 71C results indicate ihat the magnetic viscosity of,, uation is influenced by the degree of fatigue, which = F supports thn btlief Orat structural changes take place in the fatigued metal. The magnetic viscmity increases with the no. W cychs, (mace for hard steels than for mild steels); and its value is easily variable in diffmat'sainples of the same Materid, probably bemuse of eventual internal defects: in the steel. Another plictiomenon has, been observed, an increasitill tendency of the coercitive fitid. Ile increase of viscosity at the coercitive field is due to a process of araijbiening of the back of the hysteresis cycle. i.e. iuj~ ly, increase in slope. M. The uterus was stimulated by means of small and large doses of oxytocic substances administered at the be- ginning of labour, after 7-8 hr. of labour with intact membranes and 30 min. after rupture of the membranes. In case of uterine hyperjonia, the prolonged persist- ence of intact membranes is liable to result in an altered excitability expressed by an equal response to small and large stimulating doses. Rupture of the mem- branes is followed by restoration of normal excitabi$ity. 7,
