ABSTRACT: In 1929, G. M. Kayalov completed the electrotechnical department of
the Mpchanical Faculty of the Novochorkas5k Polytechnical Institute. Until 1947,
he worked in the planning department of the Rostov Division of the All-Union
Electrotechnical Union. In t.jia time, he rose to the position of Chief Engineer.
He directed the planning of a large number of Important pieces of electrical
equipment for various pro.4ects. He was active In the postwar restoration of many
important industrial enterprises. He is the author of almost 70 published works,
and has made a great contribution to modern, scientifically based methods of design
and analysis of electrical loads for industrial equipment. He is on a number of

TRANSIATIONt It is proven that the attenuation curve of high-and-low-pass filters can
be improved by using load and generator impedances differing from characteristic
Impedances of filter sections. A formula in developed for filter effective
attenuations which shows that there Is Internal characteristic-impedance mismatch
In the filters composed from low-pass and high-pass sections; this results In a
reduced effective passband if the load impedance to equal to the characteristic
Impedance. Hance, with 0 a 0.05--0o3# it Is better to select the load and generator
impedances equal to one-half of the section cliaracteristic impedance ( P is the ratio
of lower-to-bigher filter cutoff frequencies). An example of calculation of a filter
consisting of two series-conneoted T-seations and operating In an audio-frequency
band Is given. Bib 2s figs 5.

joint A-11-Union Gon-ference on the Automation of Industrial Processes in Machine
building and Automated Electric Drives in Industry held in Moscow on
May 12-16, 1959. The Conference was called by the Academy of sciences the

It was the purpose of the 9ditorial Board to arrange the reports in a way which
would ensure a relatively systematic presentation of theoretical and practical
problems relating to electric drives and automatic controls of industrial mecha-
nisms used in various branches of industry. Basic problems of automated electric
drive and their solution are outlined. The book also contains articles on elec-
tric machinery and means of automation. Considerable attention is paid to non-
contact automatic control systems, including systems with semiconductor devices
and magnetic amplifiers, and to computers intended both for the analysis and the
synthesis of linear and nonlinear automatic regulation and control systems. Re-
ports already published in journals or offioial publications have been consider-
