Title : Adaptation of stoker with a pocking plank to the locomobile boiler Periodical : Energetik, 1, 15-16, Ja 1955 Abstract : At a Northern railroad junction, the electric power plant with the Erste-Brunner 395 HP stationary locomobile was transferred from burning firewood to coal. Th(--- authors describe the technique of adaptation and the coal stoker with a movable pocking plank, illustrating with 3 diagrams. This outfit has been in operation since 1953. V.; Petrov, V. A. TITLE: Germanium alloy diode with variable capacitance SOURCE: IVUZ. Radiotekhnika, v. 6, no. 6, 1963, 708-710 TOPIC TAGS: diode, alloy junction diode, germanium diode, germanium alloy..junction diode, diode junction capacitance diode, variable junction capacitance, semiconductor doping, diode impurity concen- tration, diode figure of merit. diode time constant, diode breakdown voltage, diode optimal impurity concentration ABSTRACT: In order to obtain a suitable variable-capacitance diode for use in microwave amplifiers, an.attempt has been made to produce an alloy diode with variable capacitance and maximum 0, since maxi- mum 0 and maximum bandwidth are among the main requirements that must be satisfied by such a diode capacitor. As a result of cam- bined calc-alations and experiments (for maximum impurity concentra- tion) have shown that the germanium used for diodes with variable Card 112 ACCESSION NR: AP4012368 capacitance and alloy contact should have a specific resistivity 0.02 ohm-cm. Such diodes have a time constant not larger than 1.5 nanosecond, and their main shortcoming is the relatively low break- down voltage (3--3.5 V). An equation is derived for the Q in terms of the impurity atom concentration, the contact potential differ- ence, and the diode inverse bias. It is shown that an optimal im purity concentration exists, from w'hich the optimum resistivity is determined. orig. art. has: 9 formulas, and 1 table. Corundum specimens were contained in evacuated thin-walled ampule made of 99.952 pure molybdenum, and the experiments were conducted in an airtight unit in an atmosphere of pure argon at a pressure of 10.3 .104n/m2. The maximum calculated relative error of the e.nthalpy measurements was about 1.2%. The obtained enthalpy data, referred to 273.15K, are in Table I of* the Enclosure. It provides basic information on the physical properties of ionizing racli- ations, dosimetry, the ffect of large doses on the human organism, protective measures against the harmful effect of alpha-, beta-, and gamm-rays, and also on the management and treatment of individuals ex- posed to the action of ionizing radiation. Chapter headings include: Dose and its intensity, Methods of measur- ing and measuring instrumentsInstrument for individual inspection [pocket doslm-~ter], Dosimeters for inspection of shelters (m), Investigation of contamination of air by radioactive substances, Investigation of con~.W..- ination of water by radioactive substances, Protective measures against atomic weapons, Decontamination of contaminated surfaces and sanitary treatment of perso"e.1, Acute radiation sickness, Therapy of acute ra- diation sicknesr. A table (page 23) gives the maximum permissibj~e levels for radio- activity under verious conditions of action. The -orms; of radiation listed include X-, alpha-, beta-, and gamma-rays, slow neutrons, fast neutrons, alpha-active substances, beta-active substances, and beta- and alpha-active substances. The conditions of action include external irradiation, external action, administration of active substances, in water, in air, aerosais in air, contaminated hands, contemiinate-, clothing, and contaminated work area. TITLE: Possibilities of improving the sensitiveness of the RM-1 X-ray dosimeter PERIODICAL: Izvestiya VyBshikh uchebnykh zavedeniy. Priborostroyeniye, v. 4, no. 1, 1961, 105-110 TEXT: The authors point to the shortcomings of industrial dosimeters of the types PM-1 (RM-1), PM-1M (RM-1M), KPM-1 (KRM-1), and MPM-1 (MIM-1); they have a much too large ionization chamber (about looo cm3), and do not permit radiations of low energy and intensity to be measured. As the authors had to perform a number of special measurements at radiations of 45-100 kv, they used special thin-walled chambers for an RM-1 X-ray dosi- meter. They attained an increase in sensitiveness by enlarging the ionization volume and changing the electric circuit. The material chcsen for the 'chambers was Cellon with a Z eff = 7.2 near the Z eff of air (7-4). The walls were made of air-equivalent material. Fig. 2 shows a diagram Card 1/4 S11 46/61/004/001/01 ]1/ 016 Possibilities of improving ... B104/B203 of the two chambers. The chambere are attached to the bases 1, a Tei'lon packing 2 and a metal rod 3 are fixed to the bass. 4 is a graphite elec- trode, and 5 is the air-equivalent layer. The instrument was calibrEAed with a non-Soviet "Momentan" instrument. Results showed that the sensitiveness of the RM-1 instrument could be increased by the 14-fold with chamber I (Fig. 2), and by the 60-fold with chamber 11, a-s compared with the usually employed intracavitary chamber. A further increase in sensitiveness was achieved by adapting the measuring bridge of the vacuum- tube voltmeter with chamber II, whereby the improvement could be increased to the 130-fold. The sensitiveness, still not yet meeting the authors' demands, could be increased to about the 1000-fold with the use of a 6H3n (6N3P) tube of higher transconductance. Thus, it was possible with this instrument to measure X-radiations of from 0.001 r upward, both in a direct X-ray beam and in disperse X-ray light. Priborostroyeniye, v. 4, no. 1, 1961~ 111-114 TEXT: The author studied the possibility of determining integral absorp- tion doses on the basis of a known distribution of the percentage depth dose of va-rious ra6iations (,), n, d, and others). Fig. 1 graphically shows relative doses for various sources. This mode of representation is taken from Western papers. The author derives the integrnl E = ~D(.)(\f+x)"'dx (3) f for the integral absorption dose E of a body, where f is the distance of the body from the point source, D(x'l the dose absorbed by the mass ?dv, and x the running thickness coordinate of the body. The numerical value of the areas limited by these curves cor- responds to the integral absorption doses. The approximation method de- scribed for determining the integral absorption dose can be improved by taking account of the penumbra. Rediotekhniks, v. 9, no. 1, 1966, 13e-133 ~TOPIC TAGS: waveguidet waveguide transmission, detection ABSTRACT: A method for detecting Power spikes in a vaveguide system is described. The detecting element is a vacuum-diode section inserted between source and load, and having the w-cross section shown in the K_ figure. The diode current vs rf power characteristic shove a strong correlation up to a certain saturation level, beyond which diode current only slightly with higher transmitted power. An increase in load voltage without a corresponding increase in diode current is thus an indication of a power spike. In the saturation range, the authors found no more than 6 db variation in diode output for power variation from 500W. to 15 kv, Response time is limited by shunt capacities, but should be-so worse then several periods of the monitored wavelength, e.g.$ at 10 Ge, around a nanosecond. The VSWR of an experimental de- card 1/2 UDC: 621-317-795 L 20"46 T7 Acc-NR,' AP6010734 tector section was no worse than 1.05. The power handling capacity c an be Increased by coating the detector walls with material which inhibitis secondary emission. Orig. art. has: 3 figures.. Fig. 1.
