Abstract The authors check the effectiveness of the method of Inte-
gral equations, proposed by Drukarev (Zhur. eksperim i teor,
fiziki, 1953, 25, 139) as applied to the problem of elastic
scattering of slow electrons by a hydrogen atom with allow-
ance for the exchange. The resultant scattering phases are
compared with the results of numerical integration made by
Morse and Ellis (Morse, P.M., Ellis, W.R., Phys. Rev., 1933,
44, 269) and the results of the variational calculation made
Uy- Massey and Moisseivitch (Massey, H.S.W., Moisseiwitch, B.L.,
Proceedings Royal Society, 1950, A 205, 483). The results
are presented in the form of a graph. In the anti-aymmetrical
case, all three curves coincide within the scale of the draw-
ing. In the s5mnetrical case one obtains a somewhat high

ABSTRACT The paper under review generalizes a formula obtained by I.I.Gurevich
and I.Ya. Pomeranchuk for the resonance absorption in small 51ugs on iat-
tice with compactly arranged slugs. The absorption at multiple incidence
of the neutron into the slugs is taken into account. It isthe task of the
investigation to find for In f such an expression with which it is possib-
le to conputelf at all values ofA /L (up to such valuen at which the sy-
stem is virtually homogeneous). Here ~O stands for the probaoility to esca-
pe the resonance absorption, L for the average free length of path of the
neutron in the retarding material with respect to a collision with a slug
ands . for the scatter length of the neutrons in the absorbing material.
The author divides the integration range in the formula for -lnf into two
partial ranges. The integral over the upper, weakly overlapping levels is
identical with the resonance integral for a homogeneous mixture in the sa-
me energy range. The integral over the lower, strongly overlapping levels
is written in the paper under review in the form of a sum of integrals o-
ver the different levels. For each such level the formula by Breit-Wigner
applies. A formula is derived for the blockable part of the absorption.
The final formula for the resonance absorption as found here is given in
Card 1/2 its explicit form. It differs insofar from the corresponding formula by

Abstract Starting with the general formula for the probably reso-
nant escape probability in a system consisting of a mode-
rator and small blocks of uranium, whose average dimen-
sion is less than the scattering range in the uranium and
moderatro, the author has obtained a formula that is ap-
plicable for all values of the ratio of the scattering
length of the neutrons in the moderktor to the average path
of the neutron, also in the moderator, with respect to the
collision with the~blosk, up to values at which the sys-
tem is practically homogeneous. The sam general formula
was the one that Gurevich and Pomeranchuk started with
