Womax dust is often present in the air of industrial establiahwnts where this
product is melted or treated in some other manner. Acoording to GOST 1324-47, content
of halowax in the air must not exceed I mg per au n of air, because this product is
quite poisonous, causing dermatitis and in acute cases yellow atrophy of the liver and
death. To determine content of halowexp the air is filtered through absorbent cotton,
halowax extracted from cotton with other, and on evapa of ether reacted with dimethylud-
line. Depth of reemIting blue color, on comparison with a standard color scale, yields
value for halowax content.

ABST~mr: Results are presented of the theoretical and experimental investigation of
the prestressed state and strength of a welded, multilayer, high-pressure vessel made
at the Irkutsk Division of the N111(himmash in 1964. The vessel shell was made of
three sections, 1100, 1000 and 900 mm long, arc welded together along the cIrcum-
ference. Each shell section consisted of a central carbon steel pipe, 300 mm in
diameter, and 7 close fitting steel jackets welded from prestretched, 6-mm steel
sheets pressed tightly over the central pipe and each successive jacket. The steel

had a tensile strength of 40 kg/mm and a yield strength of 25 kg/mm ; the vessel was

designed for 8 workiP pressure of 290 kg/cm . In hydrostatic pressure tests, plastici
failure without fr F#mgentation occurred at a pressure of 775 kg/mm2, forming a
longitudinal crack 1300 am long and 184 mm2. The ctrcumferencial welds made by

TEXT: To increase the thrust of turbo-jet engines, part of the
air after leaving the compressor is by-passed into an additional
combustion chamber and expands in the jet pipe. In order to avoid
reducing the power of the turbine. an additional quantity of water
is injected into the basic combustion chamber and the supply of
fuel is increased. In accordance with computations carried out,
this method permits an increase of the thrust at take off by
about 250%. The boost thrust increases with increasing speed.
The specific fuel consumption is considerably smaller than In the
after-burning system. The proposed system in workable even in
the case wh*n the temperature at compressor outlet is equal to the
temperature at turbine inlet which is entirely unacceptable in the

classical turbo-jet engine system. Injection of other liquids,
for example hydrogen peroxide, instead of water and applying
additionally mfter hiorning, can rtirther increase the thriist of
turbo-Jet engines.

,diodes and the properties of the p-n junction. Distribution of current density
at the junction and the cavonents of the reverse current are analyzed. The
