A com-)arison was made between cholinesterase and aliphatic esterase activities
with electrophoretically (paper) defined serum protein fractions for several spe-
cies. 0-liaphthyl acetate was employed an the esterase substrate for the enzymes
which were not eluted from the paper strips but were used by immersing the
strips in the? substrate solution. The P-naphthol released as a result of enzyme
action in detected by the water- insoluble, purple dye that it yields with diazotized
a-naphthylamine. In general. esterase activity appears to be linked to the a- and

Abstract: Two lumdred cases of acute anuria, were treated at the authors'
