ABSTRACT: For a limited- coiit rol, lineal- system, functions of the distance of the
terminal point from the origin of coordinates are minimized, when the time of
transition in fixed and the initial point x (0) Is specified. A function (d, x (T) ) In
minimized for a plant describable by dx/di - Ax + bu + cil, with the initial F3tate
X(0) a x,, and the control u restricted to I u I 4S 1, This extremal-type problem to
solved according to the Dubovitakiy-Milyutin principle (Dokl. AN SSSR, V. 149,

For second-order systeme, an approximate solution of the problem (finding the
control u which corresponds to the minimum square of the radius vector Pt the

Abstract I A special type or "protective-tubes", designated to improve the servicability
of steel-nickel a3.kaline batteries, is described. Laboratory experiments
have indicated that the apnlication of these tubes retards the formation of
mnd in the elecLrolyte, thus making it possible to extend the usual interval
for filliru; up the batteries with electrolyte, from a 7-10 day r-riod to 30-
35 days. The nrotective tubes can be made of nickel-plated steel, abonite
or Alkaline-resintant nlastics. The dimensions of thr tubes for vari-
ous tyos of storAr,,e batteries (used mostly in central telephone stations)
are listed. Diagram; table.

TITLE: New Batteries (NoVyo batarel)
PERIODICAL: Radio, 1956, Nr5,p. t2 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: A description of five now types of dry batteries produced by 6oviet industry
in 1956: designations, ratings, construction features, and test findings.
54-ACML4r-5-r7 for plate and grid circuits,
65-AHM4 -1,3-0 for plate and filament circuits;
70-AM4 r-5 for plate circuits only;
1,28-HBUL~-525-rl for filamet circuits;
1, 28-HM L4 -525 for filament circuits.
The first numeral in the above designations shows the rated voltage of the
new battery under quick-discharge conditions.
A - plate; C - grid; H - filament; ML~ - manganeea-zine; BM4 - air-manganese-
zinc; r - disk construction; n - tube-socket type terminals.
A table giving exact conditions of test discharge and service lives is
included.

Title Effect of ultraviolet light on the higher nervous activil.y of rats
Periodical Byul eksp biol I med 39, 15-18, Jan 1995
AbstraLt Ultraviolet light affects the higher nervous system of man aM i-i-
mals. Authors experimented on white female rate which had been cor-
ditioned according to the method of L. 1. Korlyarevskly, by irradial-
Ing them with 1.5 biological doses (15 minutes at 30 cm distance).
The effect on the rats varied with the length of the period of irralt-
ation and with the individual rats. Other rats were irradiated wish
2.5 biological doses (25 minutes at 30 cm). The skin became painfu'
and under even longer irradiation the animals suffered Inhibition cf
their conditioned reflexes. Irradiation therefore causes changes in
cortical dynamics. ') references, P USSR. 4 since 194o. Tables
