An analysis of a special case of the problem of
stability of motion, Leningrad,, 1903) was analysis. The paper re-
lates to stability in a doubtful case of two zero roots with a non-
prime elementary divisor when the number of equations in the system
is greater than two. In only one case the Lyapunov's anal sis was
not exhaustive. He proved the existence of the funationf1c) and

real parts. Two theorems are derived, of which, the first is as follows:
if the zero solution of the system dy/dt Qj + Y(Oty) is asymptotically
stable for t -~ 4 m , independently of the form of terms the order of which
is higher than N, and'if the expansion of the function X(Oly) staris with
terms the order of which is not less then N+1, then there will exist a
continuously differentiable function f(y) such that f(0) - 0 and that each
solution of system (1) that begins on the manifold'x - f(y) remains on it.
In additiont the zero solution of (1) will be asymptotically stable for
