Auf.i_it i,i-c rv Ittinvi 6t.vol; I" TEYO- This is a report. on the results of a pho~ome-.ric investigation of the solar Corona in varioue speccit-rum regions. Phoz-ograrhs were -taken with a 6- camera coronograph. "Industar 17" objectives in-combinations with various filters were used. Brightness distribution In 'lie cor,:ma was obtained in the follcwing spectral regiona: 720, 64o, 580, 5-20, 46o, and (withcut a filter 48o) m2k. Ex- posures were Rimultaneous in all the cameras. Brightness fall off In *1~ reglone is well represented by Baumbach's formula. -The authore present photographs of the solar corona In various rays;, curves of brightness fall off in "these spectral re- gions and isophotes. The results are presented as curves Showing the amplitudes of various harmonies of the current (up to the ninth) as functions of the applied so voltage for different values of the do bias, The three materials gave qualitatively similar results$ the nonlinearity being greatest for triglycine sulfate. With zero do bins no even harmonics of the current were present and the amplitudes of Card 1/2 L 7842-66 ACC NR: APS028134 the odd harmonics increased monotonically toward saturation with increasing ac voltage. The lamellar bismuth titanate produced strong high harmonics and this material may find application in the design of frequency multipliers. Application of a dc bias caused the appearance of even harmonics, shifted the characteristic curves toward higher ac voltages, and produced maxima in the harmonics of the current higher than the first at moderate (100-200 V) ac voltages. The negative resistance due to these maxima may find application in the design of special purpose amplifiers and oscillators. For the Varikond, the third harmonic of the.current varied more rapidly with the bias than the fundamental, and the fifth harmonic varied more rapidly than the third, higher gains can therefore beobtained with dielectric amplifiers by using higher harmonics. Of the three materials, the lamellar bismuth titanate had the best nonlinearity and tempera- ture stability characteristics, but it also had the highest ferroelectric hardness and losses. The Varikind appeared to be the most advantageous material of those investi- gated, although its temperature range and.nonlinearity were less than those of lamellar bismuth titanate. After outlining their operating principles, the author presents the characteristics of the second harmonic ferroelectric operation, modulator circuits with single-phase excitation, transverse field converters, and two-phase modulator circuits. Experiments showed that dielectric modulators made of commercial variconds possess satisfactory qualitative and quantitative properties. However, the second harmonic varicond modulators exhibited low voltage sensitivity and some residual forroelectric polarization. The sensitivity may be increased by utilizing thinner plane varleonds, but the residual polarization effect will persist until the advent of softer ferroelectrics. "The author thanks Eng. V.M. In the experiment the control winding of the motor constitutes the load resistance of a pu~sh-pull differential dielectric amplifier, consisting of the supply transformer, four working capacitors (two in series in each arm), decoupling resistors and a bias resistor. Each working capacitor consisted of up to 40 parallel connected BK2-B (VK2-B) varicons. The dynamics of the overall amplifier - motor system was analyzed Card 1/2 S/803,/61/000/003/007/012 Experimental investigation ... D201/D308 by using the frequency response technique. The dynamical character- istics show that the dielectric amplifier-motor system may be repre- sented either by serial connection of two aperiodic networks or by one oscillating network with dailping greater than unity. A system without a center-tapped transformer was also investigated (the motor windings and controlled non-linear capacitors formed a bridge cir- cuit). The input resistance of the a%plifiers was found to be equal to that of the varicon insulation (100.- 109 ohms) and power gain equal to 5 x 106 - 107. Conclusion: dielectric amplifiers can be successfully used for the control of output stages of control sys- tems. There are 8 figures. Sistemy upravleniya yadevnymi energeticheskimi ustanovkami, 53-65 TEXT: The authors discuss the results of ex-oeriments on the performance of dielectric d.c. to a.c. converters using Seignette ceramic capacitors type BK M) with 2nd harmonic outputs. It was established that a "residual" second harmonic current exists in all samples for zero value of the d.c. electric field. This current may be reduced by heating the sample above the Curie Doint with simul- taneous superposition of the 1L.c. field. Thus fr6m the point of vie~w of design of Seignette dielectric modulator, the second harmonic modulator, circuits can be characterized by the ratio X of the maxi- mum current to residual current, by the slope of conversion charac- teristic and by the value of a.c. field for which X is maximum. *C ard 1/2., Dielectric converters S/803/62/000/003/008/012 D201/ ,.,308 Converter circuits invc-otigated were: 1) the differential circuit, 2) a four-pole varicon circuit and 3) a bridge circuit. Conclusions: 1) The varicons made of type VIC-I ceramics can be used for contact- less d.c. to a.c. converters, operating at temperatures up to 500C. 2) The lower threshold of sensitivity for simple circuits is 10-121-1. 3) Since the voltage sensitivity of industrial type varicons is of the order of 100 mV, the converters should be used for small d.c. currents only. The sensitivity may be increased by using circuits with the "film!'-type varicons. There are 5 figures. Ye. Poyarovskiy ("Elektrichestvo, " 1956, no. 7) for designing magnetic amplifiers. In this method, the variconds are supposed to be quasi-linear'l their' capacitance depending on their a-c and d-c voltages, but, their currents are regarded as sinusoidal. Then, the amplifier is considered as a resistive non- linear two-pole network, -whose fundamental relations are found from a voltage Card 112 ACCESSION NR: AP4019326 rector diagram and curves describing open-circuit and short-circuit conditions. As a result, the load current and the phase difference between the load and the control voltages can be determined as functions of the control voltage. Orig. art. has: 4 figures and 10 formulas. (First report in a series on "Synthesis and chemical modification of polyamides with reactive groups") SOURCE: Vysokomolekulyarnyye soyedineniya, v. 8, no. 5, 1966, 903-909 TOPIC TAGS: polymer, amino acid, polyamide, polymerization, molecular weight, amino group ABSTRACT: The hydrolytic polymerization process of-1W-**ro1acta6 4q.the ptesence of aromatic diamines and other aminocarboxylic acids has been investigated. It was shown that these compounds are regulators of the molecular weight of the poly-e-capr amide d that through them it is possible to introduce into the polymer a certain number of aromatic amino groups to preserve the fiber roduchve capacUy. A method ~.of quantitative determination of small concentra ons f aromatic a0l" groups in the polycaproamide was developed. Orig. art. has: 4 f1kur0b,'3 foi*01104. and tobte.
