TITLE: On the Hard Part of the y-Spectrum of Radium Found.in the Equilibrium With the Products of the Decay (hv~3p100+5fi0O kev) (0 zheatkoy chasti I-spektra radiyap nakbodyashohegoeya v asii a produktami raspada (hv-3100t5600 keV)) PERIODICAL: Izvestiya Aicademii nauk SSSR. Seriyd fizicheskaya, 1959P Vol 23, Nr 7, pp 832-834 (USSR) ABSTRACT: At the beginning, the transition RaC -0-RaC',g and further the transition RaC" ---w RaD, are indicated as the fundamental cause of the hard I-radiation, and figure I shows a branching of the radioactive series of the radium family. The energy levels of these transitions are investigated, and a number of previous papers is indicated. In the present paper, a y-hodoecope of the NIFI LGU was used for investigating the hard y-rays. Two series of measurements.were carried out. In the first series, the range of from 3,070 kev to 5,600 kev was investigated. The results of these measurements are shown Card 1/3 in diagram (Fig 2). In the second series, the range of from On the Hard Part of the y-Spectrum of Radium Found in BOV/48-23-7-10/31 the Equilibrium With the Products of the Decay (hy-31910045,600 key) 39200"kev to 59600 kev was investigated, and the results were compiled in a diagram (Fig 3). The line with bp- 3,070 kev was practically not measured in the first series, and was absolutely not measured in the second series. The diagrams show the existence of y-lines with the energy of ' 3,100-3,200 key. The second diagram also shows an increase in the electron output in the range of 3,500-3,600 key, and this is attributed to the transition RaC" --o-RaD according to figure 1. The transitions RaC --s-RaCt and RaC* --w RaD are indicated forthe y-lines with the energy of about 3,200 key, and finally it is ascertained that lines with an energy of more than 3,900 key could not be detected. The authors thank 0. V. Chubinskiy for the supply of experimental data. There are 3 figures and 9 references, 5 of which are Soviet. Two Ga 2 specizens were used, with activity 3 and 5 CLwie. In addition to'the pVeviously known lines, y rays with en~--rgy 3,680 + 40 keV, were with a half life (13 - 3 hours) that indicates that they belong to the Ga72 y ~spectrum, were observed for the first tirre in the Ga72 deCily. The in- vestigations show that in Ga/2 decay there are no transitions with hijv-,.:- energies, 'whose intensity would exceed 2 x 10-'7 photcris per disintegraticn. The I ray spec- tnn of Ga72 was also investigated in,the 3000 -- 4000 keV range wit-i a scintilla- tion y spectranatler,, and the existence of low-intensity 3700 ReV y rays was con- firmed.
