M. Skuratov (Kolloidn. zh., 9, 133, 1947)- It allows of measuring small heat effects during a prolonged time of reaction. The temperature was measured by thermistors and the adiabatic conditions maintained by photo relays. The sensitivity of the apparatua.was'0.006 cal. The integral heat of solution, Q., was measured for polyisobutylene, molecular weight 6 5 1.99-10 , and polystyrene, molecular weight 4-13-10 . The following was found for Q, cal/g polymer: polystyrene in ethyl benzene 5-76, in CC1 4 5.29; polyisobutylene in isooctane 0, in cyclohexane -o.16, in CCl 4 -0.97, in toluene -2.09. In.a*:*previous paper the authors showed that the bydra- amination, reaction of I -ketoalcoholip by formamide or by its N-substituents leads to the formation of a nitro- Geneous heterocycle. Pyrrholidine bases were obtained as reaction Droducts. With regard to the formation of a 5-membexed nitrogeneous heterocycle from 1-ketoalcohole (1,11) one can also imagine that water is separated from the alcohol- and ammonia-.(or amine-) molecule over a dehydrating catalyst. The, ppdtici of such a conversion must be a oorresponding A. -pyrrholine (IV). It may well be poaiiblo that one of the reacti, n rodu t represents o o e :uthors made a homologue of 4,5-dihydro furan (I il~. I -ketoalcohols and the dehydrating catalysts, in order to find a way of synthesis of the comparatively little investigated and not easily accessible A 2-pyrrholines, as well as of their dehydrogenation products of pyrrholes. They have hitherto not been described. An Objects of the investigation served gaestopropy-(I) and secondary 9 -acetobutyl- (11) alcohol. It was, revealed that the transformation of the former in an ammonium atream at 450 C on aluminumoxide a:hd Pd on asbestos. (in an analogous way Hi/Al 20 3) resulted in the formation of a-methyl pyrr- holidine (V), a-methylpyrrhole (VI) with a 10-20~ yield and a small amount of a-Methyl- A2-pyrrholidine (IV). 'It seems that the last one is the primary reaction productl under contact conditions it undergoes disproportionation according to the type of irreversible catalysis by Zelinskly yielding V and VI. The formation of a-methylpyrrhole can be brought about by dehydrogenation of the mentioned sub- stance under the influence of Pd. an well an under that of aluminumoxide ittelf. An examination of the reaction over aluminumoxide without Hi and Pd, revealed that a-methyl C,M2 2/4 Z\ 2-pyrrholine represents the ohiof product (45 %)1 20-5-33/60 CM 3/4 The Synthesis of Pyrrholes, from 1-ketoaloohole. Pyrrholines and Pyrrholidines a-methylpyrrhole develop* under these conditions in very small amounts. Thus-.alumikum oxyde exerts prItetically no influence upon the dehydregenation of IV in this case. .-The most frourablo conditions for the formation of a- methyl- pyrrholing from ~_aoetoprophylalcohol are thus given at 310-3209C, using the I-oxide of aluminum as a catalyst. After satisfactory conditions for the synthesis of the above mentioned pyrrholene had been-' found the authors decided to use the I -ketoalcohols (I,II~ in a synthesis of the interesting and little in- vestigated compounds of & 2-pyrrholine bases. Some homologues of these substances are known as photo- sensibiliLtors. The authors succeeded in d9monstrating that a formation of A 2-pyrrholine bases with a yield of 25-55 % takes Plaoie, when ketoalcohals (I and II) are passed through in an ammonia or amine streamp or in a mi*ture with an aromatic amino over aluminumoxide at 310-320 Go At lower temperatures (280-290 C) they con-- tain a considerabl*44dmixture ,of corresponding 4,5- 20-5-33/60 The Synthesis of Pyrrholes, Pyrrholines an& Pyrrholidines from Y -katoaloohole. dthydro furans (III). The study of the reaption mechanism is no direct object of this paper and has to be further Investigato4. A detailed"elaboration of reaction oondi- tions (other dohydrati-n .g catalysts$ activation of aluminum- oxydo) will make it possible to Increase the yield of pyrrholine bases to some extent. The thus obtained ' 2-'yyrrholines readily form haloidalkylates. The crystals were irradiated (maximum dose, 0 1.2 x-107 roentgen) at 3-5 C and stored at this temperature for 1-2 days before measurement. The piezoelectric effect was investigated by the resonance-antiresonance method and the internal friction was measured by the tecbnique described by L.A.Shuva- lov and Yu.S.Likhacheva (Izv.AN SSSR. Ser. fiz., 24, NO.11, 1216 (1960)). The effect Of 7 irradiation on tha.temperature dependence of all these quantities was similar to Card 1/2 ORLSIM9 R 6 ACC NR: AP5028107 its effect on the temperature dependence of the 11-component of the dielectric constanl (V-A-Yurin, Izv. AN SSSR. Ser. fiz., 29, 2000,(1965)/see Abstract APS028106/): the sharp maximum at the Curie point was reducedin magnitude, broadened, and shifted to ower temperat.ures; in the most highly irradiated samples none of the measured quanti- ties showed maxima and they were all nearly independent of temperature. The measure- ments of s~2 and d14 in the presence of bias fields were made at 120C. In unirradi- ated samples boththese quantities showed sharp maxima at zero bias. The effect of increasing irradiation, was to broaden these maxima, shift them to higher bias fields, and:finally to wash them out. The occurrence of maxima in s2#2 and d14 at nan-zero bi fields was associated with the appearance of double hysteresis loops, the bias at whicl these quantities were maximum being approximately the crItical field for the double loop. As the 7 irradiation was increased, the maximum valuea of q2 and d14, as well as their values at zero bias, first decreased, then inercased, and finally decreased again. The spectra were recorded with an 11--800 spectrophotometer in the 750-4000 cm-1 range. The absorption bands obtained are shown to be dae to the presence of silicon in the films: the 803 cm-1 band corresnonds to unsymmetrical stretching vibrations of Si-C in the Si-CH3 group and the 124~ cm7l band corresponds to symmetrical defox-mation vibrations of CH3 in the Si-CH3 group,,,Of greatest interest is the 1000-1090 cm-l'rango~ which contains bands correspo , ng to the Si-O-C and Si-O-Si vibrations. The -oresence of the 1010 cm7l absorotion band in the snectrum of PVA modified with dimethildichlorosilane shows that tho-polymer is chemically bound to the latter. The interaction takes place via the hydroxyl groups of PVA with the formation of the Si-O-C other bond.
