IABSTRACT: The principles of operation and design characteristics of an astatic
balancing d-c voltage converter in which static errors have been eliminated are
briefly describ ad. The basic circuit of the converter incorporates a modulator, a
voltage amplifier, a phase-sensitive rectifier, an integrator consisting of a non- i
linear threshold element and a memory capacitor, and a balancing cathode repeater with;
a reduced pT~Lte supply. A vibrating contact rectifier serves as the modulator. The
volatge amplifipr, which uses a 6N2P type tube, has a gain of 6400. Balancing voltage!
is picked off from a section of resistors converted in the cathode circuits of the L.
and L6 tubes and is then applied to the converter input. A special feature of the
l
~converter is the nonlinear threshold element, which permits rapid charging of the
!capacitor with current pulses of either polarity and very slow discharging. The
lastatic converter has the following technical characteristics: input voltage varia-

ABSTRACT: The atomic absorption flame spectrophotometry is a popular analytical
method; it is used very rarely in Czechoslovakia, because the apparatus is not
produced in the country. The authors are describing a simplified version of the
process applicable for the analysis of metals with simple spectra# such as alkali
metals. The apparatus consists of a source of a modulated resonance radiation
by ~ths investigated element,, a flame used as the absorption medium,, radiation
detoctor vith a measwing device, and an optical projector, Method of operation,
factors influencing the functioning of the apparatus, calibration curve,, and
applications are discussed. Orig. art. has: 4 figures- 1JPRS: 36,4641

TITLE2 The Tube Cold Rolling Process in Pilger Type Seamless Tube Rolling
Mills
PERIODICAL: Viadomosci hutnicze, 1.959, Vol 15, Nr 6, pp 191-194 (POLAND)
ABSTRACT: The article first gives a brief history of the cold rolling of
seamless tubes in the USA, Germany and the USSR,. The basic attri-
bute of the new process is the plastic fashioning of the tube ma-
terial under pressure, whereby the material floirs in a longitudi-
nal direction and along the profile of the cross section. The
appropriate pair of rolls moves back and forth, pressing the ma-.
terial,, This guarantees that the thickness of the sidings is
equal and the surface even. The process of cold rolling of tubes
is similar to forging or pressing. After rolling, the material has
advantageous attributes. It has a fine and even grain, a minimum
of carbonation of the surface, and a high accuracy of measurement.
The mechanical attributes are better than after cold tracting the
tubes. Practically, the fashioning of a tube, mhen using the new
Card 1/4 system, is limited only by the resistance of the machine. Fashio

The Tube Cold Rolling Process in Pilger Type Seamless Tube Rolling Mills
ings up to 95% have already been reached. It is attempted here to
reach a fashioning as high as possible during one process, thus
eliminating numerous intermediate heatings of material. The form
of the diameter of cold rolled tubes is always round. Deviations
are up to 5%, while previously the toldrance was limited to 12.5%.
Cold rolled tubes are characterized by'smooth and even surfaces
without defects. Daring the process of rolling a certain polish
is gained through the moving parts of the machine, and the contin-
uous pressing of the inner surface of the tube against the hold-
ing rod causes a superior smoothness. Almost all types of metal
can be fashioned via the new system of rollingi steel alloys of
nickel; beryllium5 aluminum, and others which are difficult to han-
dle. Also the freometrical form of the tubes may be produced accord-
ing to the demands~ The obtained exactness is so high that after-
wardsl a short grinding will suffice.-Another advantage of the
cold rolling represents the increase of resistance of the process-
ed metal. The plasticity gains up to almost 100%. For instance,

57 Kg/mm2, the plasticity increased to 112.26 Kg/=2 and the hard-
f/mm2,. Cold rolling of tubes means improve-
ness from 265 to 300 IC4
ment in the technical and economical respects. Until now tubes of
minor dimensions have been produced by iraction of material which
had been hot rolled. Cold traction of tubes, however, has many
disadvantages, as the material is then subjected to a complicated
state of tensions which prohibits the fall utilization of the plas-
ticity of the metal. This means that the lengthening of a piece
will never be more than 1.5-- 1.8 each time, other-wise the material
could be destroyed due to excessive tensjon~ It is impossible to
obtain a tube of very thin sidings of a steel. containing many com-
ponents (chrome-steel, stainless steel, etc.). On the other hand,
cold rolling of tubes means that the material is really pressed
and therefore it is possible to utilize its plasticity to a high-
er extents The lengthening factor here is 4-6, even up to 8, which
saves many subsidiary intermediary functions. Instead of pressing
connected with rubbing, the fashioning here is done by mere rolling,

Role of the Vacant 3d-Orbitalo of the'Fhosphorus Atom!'
Moscow, Zhurnal Obshchey Khimii, Vol 36, No 6, 1966, pp 1105-lU3
-Abstract: A study of the alkaline hydrolysis of nitrophenol eaters and halides
of phosphorus acids indicated that the free energy change is less sensitive to
changes in the influence of substituents bonded to the phosphorus atom than the
activation energy and steric factor. The effects of changes in the structure
of the substituent were investigated: effect of replacement of the oxygen atom
in the P=O group by a sulfur atom; effect of the structure of alkyl groups
bonded 'to the phosphorus atom; effect of replacenrJA of an alkyl group bonded
to the phosphorus atom by an alkoxy group; effect of structure of the alkoxy
group. The standard deviations of the rate constant of hydrolysis, activation
energy, and steric factor calculated indicated a significant difference of
.these quantities, depending upon the structure of the organophosphorus com-
pound. The introduction of oubstituents. capable of participating in p i-d )i
conjugation (RO group) next to the phosphorus atom leads to a relatives;

Abstract: The kinetics of the alkaline hydrolysis of fluorides and nitro-
3)herLyl esters of phosphoruslatoms was studied as a function of the pH. A mod-*
jified Guggenheim metho~C_,was'p_ropo-sed for calculating the rate constants of
Tirst-6rder reactions. Sample calculations were performed for ethoxymethyl-
:Fluorophosphonate, butoxymethylfluorop4osphonate and diisopropylfluorophos-
phonate. The values of E, log A,.,6 Sr, and 40 of the alkaline hydrolysis
of these phosphorus-containing compounds and the standard deviations of these
quantities vere calculated by the method of least squares. The temperature
dependence of the rate constant was also studied for the alkaline hydrolysis
of fluorides and nitrophenyl-.eaters of phosphorus acida;.it was found to obey..1

ABSTRACT: A description Is given of the technology and the design of a nuclear particle
detector (D), manufactured on the basis of a single crystal Si p-type with a specific resistance
of 2000 ohm-cm; the p-n,'~mction Is made by the diffusion of phosphorus from a gaseous phase
for 40 min at a temperature of 1150C to a depth of 2-3 microns. The working surface of D
is IV30 mm 2. The volt-ampere characteristics of D are given. Alpha-particles are recorded
by D, starting with a zero reverse bias. Pulse amplitude reaches saturation at a reverse
bias of nu lOv. The energy resolution Is 4-6%. The yield of D to equal to 70--80%. [ Trans-
