upon the ecological conditions determining the possibility

Abstract: The author considered that one of the character-
istics criteria of the species - its diversity,
its polymprphism - also fully applies to the
species of protoza. Data were supplied, which
indicate that intra-species differentiation is
inherent practically in all the thoroughly in-
vestigated forms of the lowest organisms. Thus,
It was shown that in one of the -forms, as, for

forms (Trypanosoma, Leishmania, Infusoria), such

ted with the transition of the parasite into a
new (final or intermediary) species of the master
with 3hanges in the localization of the parasite
inside the organism. of the master, or on its
body, and the geographic status of the master's
habitat. In the examples, which are concerned
with non-parasitic Infusoria, there were indfca-
ted many sided intra-species differentiations
and the complexity of the species structure,

Abstract: of the modifying variability is exceptionally
wide. Thus, in Entodinium caudatum, modifiers
were encountered, which some authors accept to
be independent species. Within the limits of
Paramaecium aurelia, there were counted up to
nine fo s distinquishable from each other,
which are found in different regions of the eE7th

logical subdivisions. Within the limits of th
same species, original physiological races alo

the non-pa rasit.ic Infusoria$ there has been dis-
covered an additional type of intra-species dif-
ferentiation based upon theso-called "'types of
coupling." ~or example, in.the Paramaocium aur
elia, within the limits of each Uvariant", - e7xist
two types of coupling, wherein Infusoria, rela-
ted to one type, do not conjugate with each other
but only with Infugoria, belonging to the sec-
ond type. Such a differentiation is projected
into an original "superstructure" over the bi-
secting specimens and determins the course of
crossing between themselves in a definite dir-
ection only. The intraspecies grouping of PTO-
