TITLE; Interaction of the halogen derivatives of aryl chlorosilanes
with hydrogen chlorosilanes
PERIODICAL.- Zhurnal obshchey khimii, v.32, no. 2, 1962, 557-562
TEXT. High temperature condensations of methyl dichlorosilane (1) with
methyl chlorophenyl dichlorosilane (11) (reaction 1), methyl phenyl chlo-,
rosilane (111) with k-dichlorobenzene (ireaetion 2) and of III with methyl
chlorophenyl phtnyl chlorosilane (IV) (reaction 3) were investigated. Re-
action I was carried out with 1:11molar ratios of the reagents at 5709
600, 620, 640 and 670 0C, witheontact times of 40, 50, 60 and 80 see., in,
stainless steel tubes and yielded a mixture of the ortho-, meta- and i
inomers of bia (methyl dichlorosilyl) benzene (A). It was found that the
yield of A, under optimum conditions (640 0Cq 60 sec.), was 27%, calculated
with respect to 1. The product then consisted of 60% of the liquid meta-
isomer and 40Y* of the crystalline ortho- and para-isomers. Reaction 2 a',

yield, (calculated with respect to 111), when the inolarratio of III to
the P-dich-lorobenzene, was 2-.1. Reaction 3 was carried out in silisa tubes,
at 6500C and with 40 see. contact time, with reagents in 1--l molar ratio,
and gave para-bis (methyl pheiiyl chlorosilyl) benzent (B), in - 30% yield
(calculated with respect to III). The structure of B was cotifirmed by a
Grignard synthesis. Phys3ical constants of the products and full experimen- I,--)(

CH2 = CHSiCl 3 it was found that the catalyst prepared from preci-
pitated CuO, Si powder and a liquid glass binder was the most, ac-
tive. 3 methods of contacting were tried: (1) Stationary bed of
elletized Icatalyst (2 - 3 mm pellets); (2) an agitated powder,bed;
a fluidized bed. The first method gave good results when using

silane yield was 33% and the output 10 - 15 g/ho kg of.catalyst.
ur7
The third method resulted in a reduction of the contact time by
a factor of'12 and a corresponding considerable increase in tempe-
rature. The yield of vinyl trichlorosilane was reduced, as the side
reactions were enhanced, to -26%. In contrast to the synthesis of
methyl, ethyl and phenyl chlorosilanes where the best results are
obtained in the fluidized bed, this method does not provide the
.contact.times necessary for synthesis,of vinyl,chlorosilanes. As an
.alternative to:the above reaction, the reaction HSiCl + CH
3 2
CHSiCl + HU is proposed. This reaction was investigated, yields

of 65% being obtained at 500 0C with a contact time of 35 seconds.
In the synthesis of methyl vinyl dichlorosilAne by the reaction
CH3 SiHcl2+ CH2 = CHCl -.~ CH3(CH2 =CH)Sicl 2 + HC1, the optimum con-
ditions ensurina a 55c' yield were 540 0C and a contact time of 30
seconds. Thus tile condensation of hydroolilorosilanes with vJ4nyl

PERIODICAL: Cheinick6 listy, 1959, Vol 53, Nr 1$ PP 22 23
ABSTRACT: ~A static apparatus.for measuring liquid-vapour equilibria
at high pressures has been designed-.'- The disturbance of
thetquilibrium conditions devising thesamplIng operation,
which occurs in the usual type of bomb apparatus, is
eliminated by subdividing the apparatus-into two or three
chambers which can be isolated by closing a double stop
valve fitted on a single.sp:Lndle, which prevents non-
equilibriUM evaporation. A sketch (line drawing) of the
apparatus is shown in Figure 1. Acknowledgments are
expressed to J..*Suba for assisting in the design of the
instrument. There are I figure and 2 references, of

*The influence of cortisone upon an experimentally
induced pneumococcal infection (Russian text) BJULL.
EKSPER.BIOL.MED. 1956, 41/3(35-38)
The experiments were carried out on 26 rabbits-, 9 rabbits were infected with
pneumococci and left untreated, 6 rabbits were infected with pneulnococci and
treated with cortisone, 5 rabbits had cortisone only and 6 normal rabbits served
as controls. Treatment with cortisone hindered the development of the local in-
flammatory reaction in rabbits infected with pneumococci and, increased the se-
verity of the infection. The treated rabbits died on the 2nd day, following the in-
fedtion; the untreated animals, infected with the same dosis of pneumococci, died
on the 5th-6th day.. At the -same time cortisone effected a decrease of ascorbic
acid in the adrenals, leaving the c.ontent of adrenaline unchanged.
