ABSTRACT: Thin films (6-8 p) of zinc,-'bismuth and tin were deposited on bismuth or
nickel substrates. The electrical resistance of the substrate was determined as a
function of aging time before deposition and the same relationship was determined for
the combination of substrate and thin film after deposition. The electrical resis-
tance of the film war. calculated by treating the substrate and deposited layer,as
parallel conauctors. The electrical resistance of zinc and tin deposits on a bismuth
substrate increases only slightly with aging ( I)

TITLE: Investigation of stresses during electric crystallization in
galvanic coatings,
FERIODICAL: Zavodskaya laboratoriya, v. 27, no. 9, 1961, 1135-1138
TEXT: The author proposes a me *thod and device for determining internal
stresses in electrolytic coatings during expansion and compression of a
band-shaped cathode. The diagram of the installation is shown in Fig. 1.
The cathode (1) consisting of a thin band is fitted, with its lower end,
by means of an ebonite nut (2) and tongue (3), to the projection of the
rod (4). The rod is made of the cathode material and coated with a thin
layer of organic glass. It serves for compensating the majority of
cathode elongations caused by temperature. It is fitted, with its upper
end, to the frame (5). The upper cathode end is placed in the terminal (6),
which is attached to the.tab (8) by means of a clamping nut (7). The tab
is part of the measuring device. The anodes (9) are fixed to the walls of
a euvette (10) inserted into the device from below. The electrolytic key

(11) serves for measuring the cathode potential., Temperature in the
euvette.is kept constant by means of a water bath. To avoid longitudinal
flexure of the band-shaped cathode, a tensile stress must previously be
established in it. This may, be achieved in two ways. First, by hanging
the tab (8) onto the shorter lever arm (Fig. 2)(dashed line), the longer
lever arm stressing the cathode by its weight. The microscope objective
is focused on this arm. The occurrence of unforeseen displacements at the
contact place between tab and lever and at the lever support is a drawback
of this method. More accurate results may be achieved by the second method
(Fig. 2). The tab (1) (like (8) in Fig. 1) carries a steel pin (2), which
to half its length projects into the coil (3) of the electromagnet. This
pin (2) carries a plastic rod (4) with collar lying on the coil. When the
circuit of the electromagnet is closed, the pin (2) is pulled slightly into
the coil,.the collar being lifted off the coil and a tensile stress
developing in the cathodes A steel armature (5) projecting into a three-
la.yered cylinder is fitted to the rod (4). The layers (6) and (7) of the
cylinder consist of polystyrene, and (8) of copper. The copper cylinder
(8) and the armature (5) form the measuring condenser. This is part of
the electronic pickup of the tube micrdmeter. The pickup is mounted in

and needs a.,solid mounting. Metal is to both sides of the band-shaped
cathode of the thickness d. The total thickness t of the metal increases
steadily with time. During crystallization, an initial stress I ot develops
in eiLch:of,its-layers, a deformation,,-of the cathode taking place. During
the cathode deformation, the stress in the coating decreases more or less,
depending on-the hairdness of the cathode material, assuming at any, time
an equilibrium value a . A longitudinal force P(t) develops in the

The increase of P(t) causes a further deformation d 6 of cathode and
coating, leading to a relief of the deposited-layer 'by the value

ABSTRACT: Following several earlier papers (Grigorov, Murzin, Ref 1,
Investigation of Primary Particles With ,~1010 -V Light
Nuclei, Observation of Secondary Components in the Air, see
also Reference 2), the present paper gives a report on
investigations carried out on stars and individual highly
ionized particles, which have been produced in altitudes
of 9 and 20 km on photographic plates (primary energy
^j1010 eV). Investigations were carried out with the
aid of sets of plates under lead- or graphite filters
of various thickness. The following results were obtained
for the number of stars per cm3 and for a period of 24

Abstract (Author's English summary modified]; The prophylactic

Title :Com-;,'.Lex Catalytic Refining of Gasoline with Simul-
taneous Production of Pure Aromatics, High Octane
Gasoline and Cyclohexane.
Orig Pub: Rev. chim. 1957, 8, No 10, 625-633.
Abstract: A new method of catalytic aromatization of gaso-
line with simultaneous production of benzene, to-
luene, xylenes, high octane gasoline and cylohexame
is described. Catalysts employed are: Pt-A120 and
Ni-SiOf With 5&/o Ni. A complex conversion Mh the
fulles utilization of the 65-1950 naphtha fraction
is thus attained.

Abstract : Benzene (I) and cyclohexane (II) are obtained at the
catalytic aromtization of gasoline fractions (GF) by
platforming, at -which occasion the forming gases con-
taining from 75 to 85% of H? are utilized for the -oa-
rallel catalytic hydrogenation of pure I or of a

direct GF aromatization product. The experiments were
carried out with a GF boiling in the range from 66 to
900 and containing (in %%) paraffins - 38, naphthenes -
58, and aromtic conpounds - 4; the aromatization pro-
duct contained (in %%) aromatic compounds.- 52, naph-
thenes - 8, and paraffins - 40. The optimum conditions
for theindustrial hVxogenation of I are: temperature
- 1600; catalyst -56% of Ni and 44% of S102; pressure
8 to 10 atm.; volumetric rate from 0.5 to 1; molecular
ratio of Gases to I - 1-5 - 2 : 1; yield of 11 - 100%.
The characteristic of the produced II: d2O = 0.7790;
nE = 1.4260; aniline point - 31.0; boiling point - 80
to 81-50. At the hydrogenation of I containing frac-
tions, fractions containing about 54to of II are obtained,
yield of II - 100%.

Abstract: In a study of serum samples from 907 persons working
in the zootechnical sector, the authors found antipararickettsial
antibodies in 43.3 percent. The incidence in doctors and vete-
rinary technicians was 69 percent, in cattle hindlers 42.1 per-
cent, in pig handlers 31.2 percentt in poultry handlers 27.4 per-
cent pnd in sheep handlers 25 percent. A direct correlation was
found to exist between the degree of infection of tv animals and
the incidence and titer of antibodies in their handlers.
