TEXT: A method was developed fo"X* the separation and detec-
tion of some thi uram group accelerators by paper chromatogra~)hy of
.,the reversed phase. The experiments were conducted with tetramethyl-
thiuram disulphide, tetramethylthiurammonium sulfide, with dimethyl-
dithiocarbamate and diethyldithiocarbamate of Zn. Dehalin was used
to impregnate the.paper (stationary phase), and 305a CH3 00011 was the
movinrr T)hase. The chromatographic spots o-P individual accelerators
were coior-developed by spraying the well-dried chromatograms i-rith a
-solution of N-bromosuccinimide in CH3COOH and wetting:, with alcoholic

PERIODICAL: Narodnoye kh-vo Kazakhst.ana, 1958, Nr 5, pp 29-31
ABSTRACT: The authors explore the prospects of t.be construction of a Kara
ganda metallurgical plant, which would have to operate with high tech-
nical -economical performance indices, namely, a volumetric utiliz-a-
tion factor of the blast furnaces of 0.75 and an 11.5-ton production of
steel per m2 of floor area of open-hearth furnaces. A number ol
problems will have to be solved by the plant n-ietallurgists for the fir5t
time, therefore, it is proposed that organization of a Scientific Re

PERIODICAL: Kryl'ya rodiny, 1958, Nr 1, p 31 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: The authors state that modenn warfare may expose aviation
materiel to the action of radioactive substances. While
this may not affect the quality o2 the materiel or. the
flying capacity of airplanes, heavy con-tamLnation
presents a threat to peoples' 1_~Ves. it is therefore
imperative to decontamin;_,te eonbat material and remove
radioactive substances &.nd enst from surfaces as soon
as possible.,Not all deconl!'.-amination agents are suitable
for aviation materiel, some being harmful to aircraft
alloys or other surfaces. Decoatamination methods depend
upon the type of contamination, the availability of
certain facilities, weather cenditions, and the season.

Decontamination of Aviation Materiel
Decontamination may be carried out on a complete scale or partially;
in the latter case complete decontamination of the plane must follow
at the first opportunity. The authors discuss methods and procedure
used in decontaminating a plane, the need for protective clothing
and warning signs, and the importance of closing off the con-
taminated area. They also recommend that planes be protected with
canvas covers or other available material (grass, straw, brush),
and that cockpit canopies, doors and portholes be kept closed.
Optical instruments, radio communication and electrical equipment
should be safeguarded from radioactive contamination in every way
possible.

Title: The Elaidinization of Oleic Acid with Nitroethane
Original
Periodical: Dokl. Bolgar. All, 1955, Vol 8. No 2. 37-40 (published in German with
a Russian B1311'rIftry)
Abstract: A method is proposed for the conversion of oleic acid (I) into elaidic
acid (II) by reaction with nitroethane (III). The reaction proceeds
slowly when small amounts of I are used. The-yield of additional
products is considerably smaller (1.4-16%) than when HN02 or oxides
qf nitrogen are used (3-9-67.3%). 1 is dissolved in double the
amount of alcohol, and 10% of III are added (based on I); the pure
0
/;'ic7 or alcoholic solution is allowed to stand for 24 hours at 0
The yield of III is 50-55% (from alcohol), mp 44.40, iodine number
89.5.
