ABSTRACT: On November 20-21, 1957, a conference took place on the
problems of the construction and exp?oitation dealing with
the mineral deposits under complicated hydrological and geo-
logical engineering conditions. The conference was organised
by the Institute of Elining together with the Central Adminis-
tration of the Scientific-Technical Society; 320 delegates,
nearly all representatives of the appropriate large enter-
prises, were present. The conferencewas opened by Academician
L. D. Shevyakov. At the plenary meeting of the conference the
following papers were presented: A. T. Bobryshev on "Hy-dro-
logical conditions of the Yakovlev deposits of the Bel-oroa
iron ore district of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly (1011) and the
corresponding scheme of the lowering of the water level and

TE(T When investigating by means of radioactive isotopes (Ca45) under
laboratory conditions the behavior of small Ca additions in the prouess of smelt-
ing Cr-Ni-alloys of XHBOT (KI-MOT) type it has been established that Ca spreads
az a rule over the ingot irregularly. Keeping alloy in a molten state contri-
butes to a more regular distribution of Ca. The latter can be present both in
non-metallic inclusions and in a solid solution, whereby the Ca content in the
solution decreases sharply with the increase of the time the metal is kept in a
molten state. For example, in an alloy kept after reduction during 20 minutes
the amount of non-metallic inclusions has decreased approximately 6 times and

TITLE: Oxidation of Propane-Oxygen Mixtures at Constant Temperature
and Pressure From Aspects of Thermodynamics

ABSTRACT: In his work (Ref 1) Academician N. N* Semenov mentions the
experimental results obtained by N. Ya. Chernyak and V. N.
Shtern (Ref 2) on the course of reaction of a Dropane-oxygen
mixture at 3550 C and a pressure of about 282mm Ng. Table 22
(Ref 1) contains the composition of the mixture for various
stages of the reaction. Semenov indicates that energetic
problems are neglected in the analysis of the results, Since
the thermal effect is apparently the most effective factor
do*termining the direction and rate of the reaction, it should
not be ignored. The author investigated the dynamics of oxida-
tion of propane by oxygen on the basis of the theory of irre-
versible processes which has been developed by the author in
various publication-b (Refs 3 and 4). This investigation is
based on the fact that the state of thermodynamic equilibrium
