TITLE-. Device for contactleas setting of diamond and carbide cutters
PERIODICAL: Stanki i instrument, no. 10, 1962,,39
T'EXT: , This device ~FiC.l) for setting diamond or carbide boring
tools was developed at the Gorlkovskiy . avtombbillnyy zavod (Gorlkiy Aut=o-
bile Plant) and has eliminated damage to cutting edges caused by contact'
wi th the setting prism or 'the post indicator. The.device has the folloaing
comDonents: a duralumin -orism (1) and a mobile-duralumin 7plate (2) attached
to~'-he prism by 'Lour steel pins; a reading microscope (4) fixed to 'the nlate
by-a steel clip (3); a diffe:~ential screw L

socket (10) on the lug of the plate (2) illuminates the cutter. The micro-
scope can be set f or x 40, X 50 and x 60 magnif ication and has a:n additioral
grid with a cross, and a scale Grid with 0.002 mm divisions. Cutters have
to be set by comparison either with a blunted cutter or with a reference
Diece. The device is set up on the tool arbor (9) by means of the prism (1)
so that the blunted cutter is opposite the microscope objective, after which
the screw (5) is turnea until 'he horizontal line of the cross coincides
with the highest point on the cutting edge of the cutter. Then the blunted
cutter is removed and replaced by a new one, whose cutting edge is matched
with the horizontal line of the cross. ~,2hus the cutter is*set to dimension.
Tl~e device also enables the quality of the cutting edges to be inspected in
.the working position. Ther Ie are 2 figures. [Abstracter's note: Essentially

TITLE: A lbeceiver-Dscillator (Priyemnik-ge ne rat or)
PERIODICAL: Radio, 1957, Nr 5, p 55 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: An ordinary broadcast radio receiver can be converted to a code training
unit by a little attachment which consists of a tube base, a tube socket, and
two small capacitors. The attachment is introduced between the final tube and
the receiver. When the key is depressed, a positive feedback appears in the
receiver turning it into an ft-foscillator.

and Tissues."
Budapest, Kiserletes Orvostudomany, Vol XV, No 5, Oct 63, pages 530-533.
Abstract; [Authors' Hungarian summary] Avitaminosis B, was develo ped in
rats by the administration of oxythianine and an aneurine-free diet. The
seram pyruvic acid as well as the sialic acid of the serum, brain and liver
rave been determined. It has been found that during avitaninosis Bl, the
rise in the blood pyruvic acid level is accompanied by a proPortional rise
in the sialic acid content of the serum and the tissues. it is assumed that
the rise in 'he sialic acid level is due to the decreased oxidation of
pyruvic acid in the tissues. The elevated sialic acid levels seen in cer-
tain pathologic conditions may possibly arise by a similar mechanism.

TITLE: Determination of thermal operating conditions of
the grids in electrical vacuum devices with oxide
cathodes
PERIODICAL: Izvestiya vysshikh uchebnykh-zavedeniy,
Radiotekhnika, v. 5, no. 4, 1962, 519 - 521
TEXT: The gold-plated grids in vacuum tubes change their
radiation characteristics due to the deposition of cathode-
emitted substances on the side of the grid facing the cathode.
This effect was investigated experimentally by.using a specially
constructed tube, illustrated in Fig. 1; In this, a gold-
plated molybdenum wire 1, 0.6 mm in'diameter, -was situated.
Inside a cylindrical cathode- 2 The wire could be heated with
AC to 1 100 0 C. The Inner wall of the cathode was coated with
an oxide. The cathode was supported by two nickel wires 7
The central portion of the gold-plated wire was provided with
two fine wires, 15 JL in diameter, one of these wires being of
nickel and the other of molybdenum. The oxide-cathode

temperature was measured by the thermocouple 8 and it 1-rns
degassed and activated in the standard manner. The'wires' 7.
supporting the cathode were then "burnt out" by passing a
large current pulse and the cathode was then lowered. It was
then possible to measure the radiation coefficient of the gold-
plated wire, which was coated with the cathode-emItted sub-
stances during processing of the cathode. The radiation
coefficient., as%a functioA of temperature, is illustrated in
Fig. 2. This differs very substantially from the radiation
coefficient of gold, which is 0-03 - 0.05. The experiment
also showed*that the deposition of the cathode-emitted sub-
stances on the grids leads to a rapid change in- their operating
temperatures. The change in the radiation coefficient was
insignificant during the degassing of.the cathode at temperatures
up to 1 200. 0K., However, a further increase in the cathode
temperature led to a significant change in the Wid radiation 0
coefficient and a rise in the grid temperature to 550 - 700 C.
-The above experimental results can be used in evaluating the
thermal operating conditions in power tubes. There are 3 figures.

Abstract The resonant filter method (Vuks, M.P., Izv. AN SSSR, ser
fiz., 1945, 9, 192) was employed to obtain quantitative
data with respect to the influence of the temperature of
the liqUd on the spectral composition of the RayleiGh
scattering, the brightness I of the solid branch of the
scattering, and the distribution of -the interisilt~ in it.
A detailed description is given for the experimental
setup and for the measurement procedure. The objects of
investigation were liquids with anisotropic molecules
having various viscosities, such as benzol, carbon

there is observed an unusual temperature behavior of the

ABSTRACT: Computations are presented to prove the feasibility and economy
of replacing the six IVS-500/2 type sealed mercury-are rectifiers with
stacks of VK-200/4A type silicon rectifier cells (average current 200 ampf
operating peak inverse voltage [PIV] 400 vj rated PIV 600 v) in the recti-
fier substations that supply 825 volts d-c for subway traction. The com-
.puted six-phase rectifier unit has six parallel branches per phase, with
six series-connected cells per branch. The number of parallel branches
is computed on the basis of peak load and surge current, taking the cir-
cuit-breaker interrupting time into consideration. The number of series-
.connected cells is*computed on the basis of the PIV's, with allowances
for variations in the supply voltage. The overall efficiency of the recti-
fier unit is 98.9 percent. It is assembled from modular stacks (12 cells
and one ton per nodule) and fits Into Wo cabinets, 800 by 600 by 2000 mm.

,rectifiers (due to the high cost of single-crystal silicon and the low level of
automation), conversion of subway substations to such rectifiers pays for itself
in five to six years, and the economy of building new rectifier substations of
