The technique described fulfils the main requirements of such a procedare: (1) ah-
sence of tension on the suture line; (2) non-excluston of duodenal loop; (3) noii-
interference with blood supply to both sides of the anastomosis; (4) provision of .1
re-inforced oesophageal stump in order to prevent disrupiton at the suitire line.
This re-inforcernent is obtained by rolling back the peritoneum on the lower oeso-
phageal segnient to forin a stout ring or cuff which is included in the anastorlitItle
stitches. The method is simpler than many previously described and restilt, are

Report of a case of a woman aged 34 presenting a paralysis on the right side of
the IXth, Xth and XIth pairs ofthe cranial nerves. She suffered from a metropathia
haernorrhagica post aborturn, accompanied by a subfebril.e state, hemicrania am
neuralgiaofthe LXth pairofcrania.1, nerves and theparalysis of the other nerves appear-
ed after 7 days. Examinations do not bring to light any single sign of the well-
known aetiology of the paralysis in a region other than the area of the foramen
lacerum. The presence of an innammatory pelvic disease and the recovery with
antibiotic treatment make it plausible to consider a phlebitis of the bulbus
jugularis as the possible mechanism.
