Separation and detection of boric acids
with curtumin is dealt with. organic reagents for the qualitative
detection of boric acid are listed. The author's contribution to,
the field comprises the development ofspot tests for borIc acid,
based on the use of derivatives'of amino- and hydroxy-anthro-.
quinones (Algol Blue 3R). The sensitivity of the anthraqu Iinone
reagents is considered very high (pD 6). The author.has also
contributed to the development of a spot test based.onauniversal
indicator (colour change from yellow to pink). The test method
utilizes the increased dissociation of boric acidin the presence
~of polyhydroxycompounds., The constitution of the reaction productar-
~of organic reagents witIh boric acid is briefly discussed and
structural formulae of some characteristic compounds are shown.
The -list of organic reagents suggested for the.detection of boric
acid comprises 19 typical products, with data on sensitivity and,
methods of detection (spot,~ test tube or solid).
