Among patients with pityriasis rosea, approximately 43116 of the cases showed in-
crease of temperature, which in a considerable number of cases was accompanied
by a decrease of the eosinophil count and a histologically demonstrable increase
of the inflammation of the foci of pityriasis rosea. On penicillin therapy, the
average duration of treatment was reduced to 13 days. When these phenomena are
considered on the analogy of the Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction, this seems to evi-
dence the spirochaetal origin of pityriasis rosea, although these phenomena can
also be explained by assuming a mycotic origin. The pathogenesis of pityriasis
rosea is, therefore, by no means explained.

Sera from 57 patients which had been verified To -8 yr. previously with the modified
Neurath test were re-tested with the TPI test. The results were in agreement in
63.2% of the cases, and there was a discrepancy in 26.3%. Doubtful cases (10.5%)
were almost always TPI-positive. A discrepancy with the TPI test was seen in non
specific and uncertain cases. The specificity of the inhibition reaction was satis-
factory, but its sensitivity was rather low. The discrepancies are explained by
considering that the inhibitor inhibits only the reagins or the -y-globulins one-sided-
ly, while previous treatment may constitute a disturbing element or the reagin
titre of the sera may have been fixed too high or too low. Since the introduction of

Abstract: [Authors' Hungarian summary modified] The data of 54 derma-
tological patients working with epoxy resins are described. The clinical
forms of the skin lesions are discussed. In 46 cases, skin lesions appeared
within 6 months of contact with the resin. According to skin application
tests, sensitization was due to the resin alone in 23 cases, to the hardener
in 1 case and to their joint effect in 8 cases; in 14 cases, the irritating
effect of the materials was the cause of dermatitis. Screening tests were
also carried out in factories using epoxy resins. Varying degree of damage
by the epoxy was found among 20.2 per cent of the workers. The circum-
stances of the development of dermatitis and sensitization, the problem of
spontaneous desensitization and adaptation (hardening) are discussed and
it is stecssed that the incidence of such damage could be minimized by
suitable preventive measures- 5 Hungarian, 23 Western references.
