This suggests that the action of the thymine analog is not associated with the inhibition of 8ark repair, at least the first stage, which is defective in Her mutants. 5- Bromouracil intensified the mutagenic effect of UIV irradiation on both direct mutations and reversions. As in the.case of the lethal effect, the seasitizing effect of 5-bromouracil on the mutagenic effect of UV irradiation was independent of the Her phenotype. 4 Genetics USSR UDC 575-24 KONDRAVIEV A,S. and SKAVRONSKAYA, A. The incorporation of 5-BU into DNA and thynine starvation was found to increase the sensitivity of both:strains to UV light. The effect was Independent of the activity of the tier gene. The Hcr'~ stratn was much more dependent on thymine. Grown on a mwlium without thyadne or a low concentration ol" the substance, the cells eventually died. The degree of sensitivity to the lethal action of UV light was also a function of, 'the dif- ference In the thymine requirements of the two strains, Addition of 5- bromodeso37uridine to the zna-"1=- did not influence bacterial groi,,th, but it torded to diminish tho inhibitory effect of thymine deprivation. The investigated alloys contained 8-9 wt% Cu. Results showed that the thermal md electricaL conductivities of W-Cu pseudoalloys exceed those of tungsten. Theligher con- ductivity is caused by the effect of copper, where both conducti- vities in the solid state are 2.5-3 times greaterthan for tung- F sten. The sharper lowerin-, j.-IP thermal and electrical conductivity 1/2 USSR KARPINOSP D. M., et al., Inzhenerno-Fizicheskiy Zhurnal, Vol 20, No 1, Jan 71, pp 96-99 of the pseudoalloys, observed at temperatures above the melting point of copper, is caused partially by a decremse of copper conductivity due to its transition to the Liquid atmte- At temperature above the melting point of copper t1l;'e pseudoalloy is depleted of copper, and after the high temperature tests the Cu content did not exceed 2-3%. Values for the coefficient of thermal expansion (GTE) of the pseudoalloys exceed those for tungsten. This attributed to the presence of a significant amount of copper in the samples. As in conductivity tests, at temperatures close to 22000K the copper melts and Ilows from the tungsten skeleton, thus reducing the copper contenZ and resulting in an alloy with a thermal expansion close to that of tungsten.- 12 019 UNCLASSIFIEV PROC E S S I NG DATE--IISEP70 t-'J -TLE--OXtOATION OF'HIGHLY CONCENTRATED SULFIV 010XIDE USING TECHNICAL, Z2G0 0 E RADE OXYGEN IN A CONTACT UNIT WITH FLUI 11 D CATALY T BE S -U- DUROVA, O.V.t MALKIMANt V.I-., KONDRATYEVA, G.P., KRAVCHENDO, #*ifOR--MAY Woo ~~'-_CQUNTRY: OF INFO--USSR *~S.OURCE-KHIM. The trends of development and practical evaluation of cryosurgical methods of treatment in the last two decades are presented. Their use b-tin of pure empiric nature it has been decided to use canine palate tonsils as a suitable model for scientific opt;- mization of demands applied to cryosurgical a araluses and rationalization of their application. The dynamics of general and local ganges ifter ton5d~ctorny in the fluid nitrogen - (-196* C) as a cold source have been studied by clinical. haernailtological and pathomorphological invesfigations, By loNverincy the 'temperature in the tissue under tonsil to-7*C a subsequent expressed destructive el'act can be anticipated. Complete disappearance of the tonsil tissue was observed in 51.8 per cent of cases, partial destruction-in 35.1 per cent. The authors believe that.along with an intensive biological search for complex evaluation of the method a simple cryogen technique for a number of surgical fields to be equipped with must be develoved.
