M., Engineers TITM The Effee'. of the Conditions of Electroslag Welding vdth Plate Electrode on the Shape and Dimens~ons of the Weld Joint PERIODICAL: Svaroe Vu bnoye proizvodstvo, 1960, No. 10, pp. 18-20 TEXT- The authors studied the basic characteristics determining the quality of weld joints which are: the width of the seam, the depth and coeffi- cient of the shape of the metal pool, The experimental part of the study was - carried out with the participation of engineer A. I. Shevtsqv, technicians M. 1. T,Imozhin and B_-A__Qxlgv from Thestperiments were performed with 100 mm thick 40)( (4pKh )~Iand 453grade steel specimens, Low alloy 100-mm wide plate electrodes were used. Experimental welding was made under AH-8 (AM-8) flux on a special device designed by ENDMSh. A RA-2000 (TSD-2000) trans- former, used as a feed source was switched over to the ENDMSh circuit with rigid external characteristics. The width of penetration, the depth and the shape of the metal Pool were determined on longitudinal macro-sections from the upper portion of the seam, where Bauman imprints were taken. The depth of . I I the pool was maintained at 30 - 40 mm. The following results were obtained. The, width of penetration increased with higher welding voltage and electrode thicknem. Higher feed rate and a gap, increased to a certain limit, cuased a greater width of penetration. Further increase of these parameters diminished the penetration. The depth of the metal,pool increased with a higher electrode feed rate and its greater thickness; it was somewhat reduced with higher welding voltage. The coefficient of the metal pool shape increased with higher welding voltage and a greater gap; it decreased with a higher electrode feed rate and its greater thickness. The characteristics of the shape of seams made with plate and wire eleotrodes were compared using data by S. A. 2jjggy�J=a. Annealed insert blanks were finish machined by the electrospark method and case hardened in powdered charcoal I air quenched, and tempered. in tests, the 4Kh2V5F'M steel insert sets lasted for an 1-nr,4 1/2 ACC NR: AT7001903 average of 810 (max. 1300) blades and the 4Kh3VSM3F inserts for 590 (max. 1070) blades, compared with 400 blades for the recently developed 4Kh5V2FS hot die steel., The experimental results showed that die inserts for hot forming blade blanks from heat-resistant allo s should be heat treated to ensure a tensile strength of not less than 1700 Mnjm~ i and high wear resistance. The optimum heat treatment for 4Kh2V5FM steel consists of air quenching from 1050-1080C followed by first annealing at 620-65OC; 4Kh3V5M3F (EP471) steel should be air quenched from 1100-1130C and first annealed at 620-65OC; 4Kh5V2FS steel should be air quenched from 1040-1070C and first annealed at 560-580C. The second annealing should be done at temperatures 20-30C lower than the first. Heat-treated die inserts should have an HRC hardness of 46-50. The use of the surface strengthening or nitriding for increasing the wear resistance of die inserts should be investigated. Preheating to 350-450C befor work greatly reduced the danger of brittle failure of inserts made from the investi- gated high-alloy hot die steels. Orig. art. has: 10 figures and 3 tables. The device was de- eloped by the*Scientific Research Department of the Far Eastern Higher Naval Engin- ering Academy as commissioned by the Far Eastern Steamship Lines. The unit has everal advantages over conventional boiling surface evaporators. The installation as been stand tested and is now in operation on board the steamship "Donbass". The vaporator has an inside diameter of 1030 mm and an overall height of 1400 mm. The ondenser has a surface of 7.3 m2 while that of the brine heater is 5.35 M2 1 . A hydrau- ic lock is mounted on the heater for separating the condensate from the steam. The evel regulator has overall dimensions of 287x40O mm. PERIODICAL: Doklady AN SSSR, 1957, Vol. 115, Nr 6, pp. 1206-1208 (USSR) ABSTRACT: The nucleic acids form the chief core of the metabolism of nuclein and play an essential part in the processes of tissue-differentiation. Under the conditi 'ons of a metabolism during starvation of the pea buds, which were caused by the removal of cotyledonsi the proteins containing no phosphorus are consumed first of all. The phosphorus-containing nucleoproteids (Konarev) are conserved longest of all. In this connection the nuclein-- compounds are comparatively most abundantly present in the vessel--forming cells and in the parenchyma near the vessels. There exists no doubt a connection bet- ~ween such a localization and the formation processes of CARD 1/4 the vascular system. At the same time rises the impor tant problem concerning the influence of the phosphorus- On the Differentiation of Fibrovascular Bundles of 2o-642/48. Xylem Under the Influence of the Phosphoric Nutrition of Plants. nutrition on the differentiation and on the formation of the vascular system in the course of the growth and the development of' the plant. The author carried out the quantitatively-anatomical observations, mentioned in the title, in plants with a different supply of phosphorus. Tent plant3 were: sunflower of the species "Saratovian early" in the greenhouse on sandy soil and tomatoes "bison" on sandy soil. Furthermore the kind of potato Ilepron" and leaves of the common turnip "Eakendorfer" from tests of other researchers were used. The nutrient mixture corresponded to that by ,Hellriegell.but with a different dosage of phosphorus. Microelements B, Mn and Cu were added to this. Results: A) Sunflower. From table 1 may be seen that in the case of deficient phosphorus-nutrition less fibro- vascular bundles develop in the ttem. The vascular lumina. were narrowed. B) Tomatoes. From table 2 may be seen that the phosphorus"nutrition stimulates the formation of the ~xyleme vessels and of the wood-fiber ring in the stem. Especially favorable was the dose of phasphorus with simultaneous supply of nitrogen and potash (NP K), 2 in which case the highest number of vessels de-relops. One-s ided nitrogen~nutrition is not advantageous for the formation of the vascular system in the stem, The same stimulating action was also observed in potatoes and turnipa. The part played by potash also manifests itself in this connection, but only in the formation of the xylem vessels. Thus the phosphorus- nutrition exerts an essential influence on the formation of the fibrovascular bundles as well as on that of xylem vessels. This is no doubt connected with the part played by phosphorus in the differentiation processes of the vascular system.
