changes in protoplasmic protein complexes of
the adrena'7 thyroid, and thybius glands. The
isoelectric point (IEP) and ?elgen's reaction
-are chosen as indicators of these chanr!es It

dionlacement into the direction of the alkaline
group takes place. At the saic tipie a d crease
of nucleic acid contents vithin protoplas-wic,
protein complexes occurs, a fact which causes
a lowering of synthetic process levels. IEP
displacement is markedly internsifiod dtiring
early ontogenesis (4 days to I rtionthl and is
less intensive at advanced age. It displays
a more intensive development in the adrenal
and thyroid glands, and is less intensive in

ABSTRACT. The present standard method of classifying the aging tendency
of steel (COST 5520-50) is based or. measuring the resilience
of the steel at room temperature (Refs;1,2) and does not make
possible a quantitative classification. In the present method
the expansion curve of the same steel obtained after cold
hardening and aging is plotted on the expansion curve of the
steel Oin the initial state) plotted according to real valu4s of
"he coordinates deformation - stress. This method makes possible
differentiation between the hardening effect caused by aging
and that caused by cold hardening. This method is practical in
that no complicated samples are needed, and simple apparatus as,
for instance, the testing machine IM, -4A can be used. The

obtained in testing the steel samples type q6t.3 (0,14% C,
0,44% Mn, 0,055% Si, 0,037% S and 0,031yo P) is given. Also
diagramsof the tests of steel samples of type M*S'i-.3 hardened at
9300 in oil as well as of those cooled in the furnace are given.
It was fc-_1.~.,l that the natural and the artificial aging of a
cold hardened steel are of a different character. In contrast
to the present ideas regarding the aging of carbon steels a
quick cooling from the austenite state does not decrease the
tendency to mechanical aging. There are 3 figures and 5 refer-.,,

ABSTJ~ACT: In the interaction of the basic dye acridine organge (AO) with DNA tw
complexes are formed: complex 1, probably consisting of AO dimers or higher
aggrej3atea and complex 11 is an AO monomer. Complex I is *ostly formed with
oingle-chain DNA and RM., while complex Il is formed with pative double-chain MA?
The purpoce of the present work was to find whether AO.caa be usedL as protective
substance against inactivation of infectuous IVA by UV radiation. In the tests,,

caused practically no screening of UV light. The same test was repeated with
1 cP 7 bacterio. phage. AO dye has no effect on the whole phage (DNA i albumin
skin) since it does, not penetrate through the a1Vum.14 skin. Neither'does UV

in a DNA solution " with AO and irradiated with UV light (of the nueleic acid
absorption spectrum)p the dye protects EKA from Inactivation by the UV quanta.
This means an effective energy migration from the WA base to the dye vith sub-

The authors sum up the results of 4 years' treatment of leprosy with 'tibon', a
preparation of the thlosemicarbazone group ('87'). The best methad, as it proved
to be, was one of intermittent courses - the single course lasted 10 days followed
by a rest. A single dose was 0.025-0.1 g.; the total for 24 hr. was 0.05-0.2 g.;
12-14 cour,4es constituted the whole period of treatment, which lasted 6-7 months.
The total dosage of the drug for the period was 14-30 g. Tile treatment was then
discontinued for 4-6 weeks, and resumed with the same technique twice - up to 4
times in the course of 2-3 yr. The supporting treatment administered concurrently
included vitamins, physiotherapy, etc. The therapeutic effect becomes apparent ~
after 5-6 courses, i e. towards the end of the 3rd month. Out of 70 lepers a posi-
tive result was obtained in GOO/a.,A complete clinical cure was attained only in the
early stage of the disease. In the nodular form of leprosy positive results were
attained in 909i. of the patients. The authors used also a combined treatment of
'tibon' and intradermal injections of ol. chaulnoograe preparationv. Such a com-
bined treatment gave the best results and permitted the rest periods to be leng-
