TEXT: The paper constitutes a report presented by A.A. Rudnicki, USSR, at.
a symposium on thermoelectric thermometry held in Lbd~ on 1st and 2nd*March 190540.
Tire subject is introduced with general aspects such as resista:nce to oxidation In
high temperatures, melting points of metals and alloys, diffusion processes and re-
duction atmosphere. Aluminum oxide (A12~) is specified as the most suitable, in-
sulator for high-temperature thermoelemen s. Suitability tests which involved the
alloys PtRhl3-PtRhl, PtRh3o-PtRh6, PtRh2o-PtRh5,,PtRh4o-PtRh2O and Rh-PtRh2O estab-
lished the superiority of the alloys Rh-PtRh2O and, in the second place, IrRh6O-Ir,
both of which showed a deviation in thermoelectric force of less than 1% after a
100--hour annealing in air at a temperature of 1,8000C. Conclusi Ion; most suitable
a:-e platinu.,n-rhodium alloys, with the rhodium content proportional to thermoele~~tric

pared showinw the fifteen largest clusters in the catalogue, including 6 open.

types are located in fields which are poor in very distant clusters* Five out of
six lie in fields in which the number of very distant clusters is smaller than the
average of 7,1 per field. The results tend to confirm the findings of Zwicky that
large near and medium distant clusters contain enough intergalactic d t and that
us
they oov-ar large enough fields so as to dim the light coming from more distant
~7' galaxies and in this way decrease appreciably the identifiable number of very dis-

Abstract The reactions taking place at heating a mixture of pul-
verized Na2S205 and NaOH to 100 - 4ooo in a N2 flow
were studied. Na2S205 disproportionates at 100 to 2000
in the same way as in the case of alkali absence. At
temperatures above 3000, the disproportionation pro-
ceeds accordina to the equation

Papilloadema was observed in a woman with neurilemmoma of the roots of the spinal nerves
pressing on the medulla at the.level of the 3rd dorsal vertebra. A .fter the removal of the
reoplasm the papilloedema subsided and the pettlent has been completely well for the last
2 yr. after operation. It is considered theat hydrocephalus and consequently papilloedema
of the optic nerves occurs in cases of tumonre of the spinal cord bacalase of the closing
of the spaces, whereCSF Is absorbed, In such cases a part of the CSF, which is, following
the author, normally absorbed by the meningeal sac of the medulla collects in excessive
quantity within the cranium. It may be too, that the increase of intracranial venous
blood pressure is due to the pressure of the plexus of spinal veins.
