A 'comparison was, thereforet made between the ef- lects o-L,x rays and of fast electrons on-healthy-tissue cells in. the resting phase. The experimental work was carried out at the Ra, diological Institute of the Zurich University under the direction, of Professor Dr. H. Fritz-Niggli. SeventY 3-month old male-rats (160 - 180 g in weight) were divided into 3 groups as follows: group 1 - controls, group 2 - irradiated with 30 klev electrons, and -roup 3 - irradiated with 180 Icv x rays. In both cases 450 r were delivered to the hepatic region over an area 4.5.cm'in diameter* -After about 24 hours following the irradiation, the animals were Card 1/3 P/056/62/013/006/001/003 Studies of the biological ... D461/D307 anesthetized and partial resection of the liver was performed. As U 3 a result almos' 706,f of the -organ was removed (left and middle lobes). After 18, 24, 36, 48 and 72 hours following t .lie opera:tion ,groups of 5 animals were decapitated at a time and sections of the right lobe of the liver -,,,ere taken for histological examination., Hi--tological specimens 6 /u thick were stained, with Heidenheim-'s herna-Voxylin and the following were determined: (1) mitotic figures as a fuiction of time after the operation, (2) distribution of mi-. totic phases, and (3) percentage of abnormal ana- and telophases as 9 a function of post-operative time. Statistical analysis of all the data showed that the effect, _)f damage to hepatic cells in the resting stage on-subsequently induced mitotic processes was very, nearly the sa,.Ile for both electrons and'x rays. Damage due to the, electrons is less intensive and more easily repaired. Fast, elec- -Urons have a selective effect in that they prolong the prophase. The biological ef-ficiency of 30 Mev electrons (from the point of view of a normal liver cell in the resting stage) is o;alrslightly C) lower than in the case of the 180 kv x rays.'There are 3 figures -.and 2 tables. %.lard 2/3 v r n fl Oln 1w p :12 j C L pt"', i7 c t 4 v r it '140 t - - - - - - - - - - - 7M L 17266-Q EWT(m)/BDS/ES(J) P/056/6-3/0 14/00 l/90 3/0041 -iFFTC/ASD/AFWL &R/K~ AUTHO R. dnickii:-Tadou'sz I T T L IS Studies on- the bio o-ical effect of sim a 11 doses of ionizing radiation. The experimental results show th:it aj the 1"Iver regeneration in group 1 sets in 18 hrs after the partial hepatectomy, the mitotic index is at a maximum 6 hrs later and decreases afterwards, and about 19 out of thousand cells display mitotic action 72 hrs after the operation., b) the mitotic action of the cells in the liver regeneration in groups 2 and 5 sets in 24 hrs after the opera- tion but the degree of the mithosis is below that of the nonirradiated group 1, Card L 31144-66 ACCESSION IM: AP5009579 C) 72 hrs after the operation the mitotic index of groups 1,2, and 3 is.of the same value, d) the percent participation of the mitotic phases in the mithosis is disturbed after the irradiation so that in grouP 3 about half the cells in the, anaphase anA telophase undergo abnormal mitosis while in group 2 only about 5% undergo abnormal mitosis. It is concluded that mitotic delay after the irradiation of the resting cells may be due to either the local or distant action of the ioniz- ing radiation, that no marked quantitative differences between the local and dia- tant effect of the radiation on the resting cells of the liver are noted, and that abnormal mitosis could result only from the local irradiation of the resting cells. During the initial work stage, erection of the lower parts of the turbines and wicket-gate mechanisms was carried out simultaneously with the laying of the underwater structures and turbine, shaft. During the next work stage, construction of the floors and walls of the nuichine room was carried out simultaneously with the preassembling of components on the erection bays: the 427-t turbine rotor, 180-t turbine housing, 730-t generator stator. During the next work stage, after the turbine rotor had been lowered into the crater, the building construction work was continued in the turbine room, and the roughened -surface concrete was laid up in the main Card 1/2 ALEKSEYEV, G.P.; ANDONIYEV, V.S.; ARNGCLID, A.V.; BASKIN, S.M.; BASHMAKOV, N.A.; BEREZIN, V.D.; BERMAN, V.A.; PIYANOV, T.F.; GORBACHEV, V.N.; GRECHKO, I.A.; GRINBM, G.S.; G-FCWV, M.F.; GUSEV, A.I.; DEMENTIYEV, N.S.; DMITRIYEV, V.P.; DULIKIN, V.Ya.; ZVANSKIY, M.I.; ZENKEVICH, D.K.; IVANOV, B.V.; INYAKIN, A.Ya.; ISAYENKO, P.I.; KIPRIYANOV9 I.A.; KITASHOV, I.S.; KOZHEVNIKOV, N.N.; KORMYAGIN, B.V.; KROKHIN, S.A.; KUDOYAROV, L.I.; KUDRYAVTSEV, G.N.; LARIN, S.G.; LEBEDEV , V.P.; LEVCHENKOV, P.N.; LEMZIKOV, A.K.; LIPGART, B.K.; LOPAREV, A.T.; MALYGIN, G.F.; MILOVIDOVA, S.A.; MIRONOV, P.I.; MIKHAYLOV, B.V., kand. tekhn. nauk; MUSTAFIN, Kh.Sh., kand. tekha, nauk; NAZIMOV, A.D.; NEFEDOV, D.Ye.; NIXIFOROV, LV.; NiKnIN, I.A.; OKOROCHKOV, V.P.; PAVLENKO, I.M.; PODROBINNIK, G.M.; POLYAKOt, G.Ya.; PUTILIN, V.S.; RUDNIK, A.G.; RUMYANTSEV, Yu.S.; SAZONOV, N.N.; SAZONOV, N.F.; SAULIDI, I.P.; SDOBNIKOV, D.V.; SEMENOV, N.A.; SKRIPCHINSKIY, I.I.; SOKOLOV, N.F.; STEPANOV, P.P.; TARAKANOV, V.S.; TREGUBOV, A.I.; TRIGER, N.L.; TROITSKIY, A.D.; FOKIN, F.F.; TSAREV, B.F.; TSETSULIN, N.A.; CHUBOV, V.Ye., kand. tekhn. nauk; ENGEL, F.F.; MUSHY, . . Bronchoscopy should be per- rined in every rase ot atelectasis; in order to ascertain whether and what lesions dot in the tracheo-hronchial tree, partirtil. arly in [tie bronchus draining the area .ateleclasis. In cases of atelectasis. the comparison between radiologic and onchoscopic examinations showed relatively frequent discrepancies, Therefnre, order to assess more accurately tile results of therality, bronehoscopy as well tother examinations should be repeated at the end of treatment. SSSR) TITLE: Structure of the valence band of highly alloyed lead telluride SOURCE: Fj.zika tverdogo tela, v. 8, no. 5, 1966, 1336-1340 TOPIC TAGS: valence band, telluride, thermal emf, carrier density ABSTRACT: An attempt is made to determine quantitatively the parameters of the val- ence band by studying the electrical properties of highly alloyed lead telluride. The Ve al properti( lectric i_g of p-type lead telluride, having carrier concentrations of 2-10"1:to 1.4-10ZU cm-3 (according to the Hall effect), are studied. The energy gap between the two valence zones is calculated, and the effective mass of heavy holes is I determined. The temperature dependence of the thermal emf is used to determine the Variation in the gap as a function of temperature. As temperature increases, the gap -4 decreases (AE = AEo-a), where a = 2-10 ev/deg. Results, which are considered as x interim, show that the valence zone structures of highly alloyed tellurides of lead Igermani and apparently tin as well, are similar.
