Basically the problem was to find, for given inlet and outlet angles of flow,;; the velocity distribution and the values of the parameters, involved, for which the energy losses reach their minimum value. These losses were then plotted against the inlet and outlet angles and compared with the results obtained experimentally by R. D6ge and R. Herrman. Good agreement was obtained in the case of impulse blading with large deflection of flow;, for reaction blading with a small deflection of flow, the energy loss coefficients were smaller than those'found by Do"ge and Herrman. In the theoretical treatment of the problem the boundary layer is A~ assumed to be always turbulent. A suitable velocity distribution Card 1/2 00100610011003 z /041/62/0 Minimum attainable energy E16O/E472 over the blade surface for the potential flow is also assumed. Procedure for the determination of the boundary layer momentum thickness on the pressure and suction sides of the trailing edge is given. It is based on the work by M.J.Lighthill, according to;, which a blade cascade is conformally represented on a unit circle The energy loss coefficient is then determined by the sum of the two momentum thicknesses just*mentioned; it is expressed in terms of the geometrical parameters involved and the plot for their various values is obtained. Thus an overall picture of the energy losses of the most suitable blade cascades is acquired. If then at any time it is necessary for design reasons to alter the geometrical parameters, it is possible to estimate the degree of worsening of the blading efficiency in relation to the optimum conditions. T._17TLr: Visual method for the orientation of crystals by X-rays PERIODICAL: ~eskoslovensky C*'asopis pro fysiku, no.4, 1962,PI71-379 + 3 a es 1EXT: The paper deals particularly with diamonds, for which the visual method is particularly suitable because of their very strong reflections. In this method, the Laue pattern is produced on a fluorescent screen instead of on a photographic plate. The. crystal is rotated within the beam of X-rays, so that the Laue pattern changes as the crystal, goes through its various orientations. The rotation is carried out manually, with the aid of a suitable mechanism. When the Laue pat7tern is brought into coincidence with a predetermined pattern, the crystal will obviously have the desired orientation. Details of the method vary for different orientations and different structures. The orientation of diamonds into all their important axes are described in detail. As an example, the orientation into the threefold axis will be described here. We first move the crystal within the beam so that the elliptic shapes in the centre of the Laue diagram disappear. At this stage, the beam coincides Card 1/2 Z/037/62/000/004/oWoO Visual method for the ... E024/E435 with the twofold axis. The fluorescent screen bears a fluorescent cross on it and it can be rotated, with the aid of a scale, by 900. The threefold axis in diamond forms an angle of 540 with the fourfold axis. . When the twofold symmetry of the Laue diagram has one arm of the cross as its axis of symmetry and',; this is inclined bY 540 to the vertical, then the threefold axis 1, of the diamond is vertical and is perpendicular to the X-ray beam.:1. Abstract The causes of corrosion (C) of basic structural materials (SM) are discussed. CaO.SiO21 which is a constituent of Portland Cement, is transformed into Ca(OH)2 upon reac- tion with water. This latterm. in turn, forms CaCO n contact with C02 of air. Besides water the princi~a?o corrosion agents arc industrial gases which contain subs- tantial amounts of SO 2- H2SO4 formed on interaction of SO2 with air's oxygen reacts with calcium hydroxide to Yidld CaSO4. Abs Jour Ref Zhur- Xhimiya, No Ili 1958, 36611 the decorative quality of structural material is impai- red but also its life span is decreased. The elimination of CaCO3 from SM is accomplished by treatment with 10% HC1; the resulting CaC12 is washed with water. The in- fluence of soil water and of decrease of hardness on C of SM has been indicated. The necessity of protection of all protruding parts of buildings was deemed necessa- ty. Given are accumulated data on means of protection of SM against formation of salt deposits. Methods of corrosion protection of buildings are discussed; des- criptions of chief structural and architechural measu- res, to promote protection against the action of rain and soil water are cited. It is noted that the best corvosion protection is afforded by impregnation of natu- ral stone and synthetic cerarAc- compounds -with the solu- tions of fluortme compounds such as: Card 2/3 RUZYCKI, S. A metbo,l Ca(HCOO)2 was developed for producing catalysts from mechanical mixtures of III with I or II. CuO, and then Cu, are formed on heating I and II in vacuo, in CO or in water vapor.
