Rossiyevsk-;y recommended 'hat the thermal em ss a diesel be equal. to 3-8% of the total heat produced 1.n the cylinders during fuel combustion, whild Professor V.V. The enGine was encased in an insulated casing and the teMpe- ratures of the various components of the, thermal balance and air-cooling syptom recorded during the engine's operation. The results are dravn up in table form and show clearly that the thermal emission depends only on the temperature.of the dieselfs surface. Conference on Cosmic Rays and Earth Storms, Kyoto, Japan, 4-15 Sept 19610 21(8) SOV156-36-6-9166 AUTHORS: Rymko, 11. P., Tulinov, V. F., Charakhchlyan, A. N. TITLE: A Case of a Sharp Intensity Increase of Cosmic Radiation in the Stratosphere (Sluchay bol'shogo vozrastaniya intensivnosti kosmicheskogo~izlucheniya v.stratosfere) PERIODICAL: Zhurnal eksperimentallnoy i teoretichesk-oy fizikil 1959, Vol 36, Nr 6, pp 1667 1689 (USSR) ABSTRACT: On July 8 1958 an unusually sharp intensity increase of~cosmic radiation at high altitudes and a geonagnetic latitude of 640N was.detected by the Loparskaya station (Severnaya nauchnaya stantsiya AN SSSR (Northern,Scientific Station AS USSR)). Measurements were carried out by means of a Geiger-Mueller counter and a radioprobe for cosmic radiation RK-1 (as described in reference 1). Figurel shows the.results of measurements, which are compared with the curve obtained by measurements carried out on March 1 and July 7-In an altitude of 30 km the intensity was double the normal value. Analogous measure- ments were carried out by means ofthe stratospheric probe RK-1 in the stratosphere on July 8 by the station Dolgoprudnaya Card 1/3 (near Moscow), nauchnaya staritsiya Fizicheskogo instituta AN SSSR A Case of a Sharp Intensity Increaselof Cosmic Radiation SOV/56-36-6-9/66 in the Stratosphere (Scientific Station of the Physics Institute, AS USSR) and at Simenze (Krymskaya.nauchnaya stantsiya FIAN (Crimean Scientific Station of the FIAN)). The first-mentioned station found values which were 8-10% below the normal ones, while Simenze found no deviations * The sharp.increase of intensity was due to the increase of the number of primary particles with.energies below 1.5-109 ev. The increase of the number of primary particles of such low energies was accompanied by an intensity decrease in the case of primary particles of medium energies (1010> E> 1-5009 ev) and by an intensity increase in the c .ase of primary particles with energies of more than.1010 ev. The authors finally thank S. ff. Vernov for his interest in this investigation and for discussing results, and they also thank 'A. G. Bednyakov for his help in carrying out measurements. TITLE: A photo-electric colour-matching device PERIODICAL: ileferativnyy zhurnal, Elektrotekhnika i energetika, no.6, 1962, 3, abstract 6 V14. (Svetotekhnika, no.10, 1961, 14-20). TEXT: Electric colour-matching device type '7YL~-l (EKTs-1) is based on the principle of measuring the logarithm of the of the photoelectric currents obtained during the reflection (or transmission) of light from the two specimens which are, being compared. The device consists.of a radiation receiver type (FETs-27) with bismuth-silver- thode, an caesium ca amplifier, detector, and a measuring instrument. The light s,ource is an incandescent lamp type CU -70 (STs-70), operating as source A with a colour temperature of 2854 OK. The following filters are fitted to two rotating discs: 2 for measuring the .colour temperature of the lamps (sources B and C), and 3 for correcting the spectral sensitivity curve of the equipment. The reference and the measured samples are illuminated in turn Card 1/3 A photo-electric colour-matching ... s/196/62/000/006/008/ol8 E19VE154 at an angle of 90 by light modulated at a frequency of 20 cls (a double beam optical system with a sin-le light source). The current is generated in the form of rectangular impulses. The electronic circuit takes the logarithm of the photo-current and amplifies the alternating component, which is detected by a full-wave phase-sensiti-ve detector.-.The voltage at the detector output is measured by a microammeter and the instrument reading is proportional to the logarithm of theratio of the colour coordinates of the reference and the sample. The accuracy of measurement is as foliovrs: for colour coordinates 0.0001-0-0005; .for difference between reflection coefficients of specimens up to 0.019,~, for surfaces of any colour with reflection factor equal to or greater than 1~o. The following coordinate systems are proposed: XH log a, log 0 (log a = log, log P log and y y !~Nlog a, Alog (LNlog a = log cc- - log a V specxmen standard a Llog = log - log V spec3-men standard Card 2/3 S/196/62/000/006/006/016 A photo-electric colour-matching ...
