The appearance of Vi antigen in E. freundii depends on the existence of certain 0
antigens (05, 20 and 31 antigens and the 0 antigens temporarily called W, IBI
and 6203). Vi strains are characterized by the absence of fermentation of sucrose,
whereas the majority of strains deprived of Vi antigen strongly attack sucrose.

TEXT: A patent has been taken out for an arrangement for measuring
the lifetime of charge minority carriers in semiconductor crystals
and especially in germanium ingots, developed from.the Morton-Hayes
Method ('Froc. IRE, 1952, 40, 1420-1423). A beam of parallel light.
rays is projected onto a germanium wafer. The rays are transmitted
",hrough a system of lenses from a light source which is either a
_,ungstuen or platinum element light bulb or a gas discharge lamp..,
2-he beam may be directed through a light interrupter to any point
of the wafer surface-The interrupter is a disc with concentric

bow-s'.,--aped slits, situated at various distances from the center.
The beam may also be directed by a system of two pairs of mirrors.
The mirrors may be moved along two perpendicular axes and turned so
that the light beam is directed througheither of the optical slots-',
to both sides of the collector at various fixed distances on theGe
wafer. The method of measurement is based on direct determination
of the diffusion line from the measured intensity of.light trans-
'ted of
L5 through the one and then the other slot. The intensity
M

T=- It is shown that photoexcitation (Hg-lamp through UG-11 and BG-12
filters) causes a red luminescence of manganous phthalate.. When increasing the
temperature from -112 to 830C, themaximum of.the.luminescence band is shifted
from,670 to 600 mp, and the luminescence intensity decreases by oneorder.

administered b~ intranasal instillation In two dose's to 142
children In a vocational sohoo, and was also used In two factories
in Bucharest in the first quarter of 1965. It is stressed that
the antibody level at the time of vaccination must be taken Into
