TOPIC TAGS: biochemistry, toxicology, poison effect, ileum, contraction
ABSTRACT: It has been previously established that staphylococcal toxin at.a
X' 1,0-4,g/ml concentration.causes irreversible contraction of electrically stimulati
d guinea-pig ileum and causes gradual decrease in sensitivity to this stimulation.
Vveral compounds which counteract the toxin effect such as papaverin, adrenalin,
rocaine, and the SQ 10642 substance were. exami ned and their antic ontractile
influence was~evaluate . The dosage'used and the degree of counteraction are
described. The conclusion is that while the toxin contraction effect can be countere
