Title : The effect of friction on heat transfer in pipes with forced air flow Periodical : Teploenergetika, 7, 45-47, Jl 1955 Abstract : The author reports on tests made on the effects of friction and resistance in piping on heat losses. These tests, made in a specially designed installatia;, were to determine heat losses by measuring: 1) the amount of electric energy needed to heat and evaporate the water su'rrounding the piping and, 2) the enthalpy of the air flow in the piping. The results of these tests are presented as a mathematical analysis accompanied by graphic curves. Six diagrams. Four Russian references, 1935-1952, 2 German, 1933-1934. Tekhnika, 1958, Nr 1, pp 106-112 (USSR). ABSTRACT: A reduction in the weight (working surf--ce) of a heat exchanger can be obtained by increasing the heat transfer. A number of investigations have shown (Refs 2, 3, 4) that the roughness of a surface increases the heat transfer coefficient and the hydraulic resistance. Hence the use of roughness is related to additional energy expenditure in moving the working fluid. Thus the desiv-ner must know the relation of the useful effect (reduction in weight or dimensions) and the additional energy expenditure to the state of the heat exchanger, as a function of Reynolds number and to the roughness prameters. It is assumed that the working conditions in a heat exchanger with smooth and rough pipes are the same. A formula is given which determines the minimum dimensions of a rough heat exchanger as compared with a smooth one, as a function of the Card 1/2 soy/147-58-1-13/22 The Use of the Rougness of 'the Surface of Heat Transfer to Reduce the Weight of a Heat Exchanger relative roughness, the relative concentration of roughness peaks and the Reynolds number. The relative increase in energy expenditure to overcome the increased resistance is also given. There are 4 figures and 4 references, 2 of 7,.-hich are Soviet and 2 English. He derives formulae for the determination of the relative tempera- ture increase (decrease) under various operation conditions of the heat exchanger according to the Re-number and for the calculation of the'relative increase in power consumption to overcome the resistance caused by the roughness. 4 tempera- ture ine'rease (decrease) can also be obtained by intensifying the heat exchange and increasing the Re-value. Equations are presented for the calculation of the ~ost.effective Re-value. However, the power consumption in this case grows con- Card 1-12 ?7018 ~/123/61/000/016/018/022 Increasing the temperature ... The obtained calculation relations for a utilization of the roughness are applicable also for other cases of intensifying the heat exchange - using agitating grids, inserts, surface corrugation, etc. There are 4 figures and 4 references. The scintillator consisted of: PPO - 7 g/l, POPOP - 0.05 g1l. A change in scintillation effectiveness (SE) served as a measure of the quenching action of the radfoprotective agents. The SE was measured by using an FEU-13 counter and an AMA analyzer; the accuracy was 5%. The radi tion source was CB137 (661 kev). The absorption s--ctrum was measured 'with an SFD-Aevi Ce and the luminescence spectrum with an _LSF-KAevice and special recorder consisting of an FZU-38 photomultiplier, narrow bqndwidth amplifier, and synchronous rectifier. By this method it was found that At~T, MP;, and MOT had nearly identical quenching characteristics while serotonin had none. By comparing the quenching characteristics in the model with the protective q--alities of these com- 2 uDc: 628-58 r1901 -206 L 77118-66 ACC NRs AP5025931 pounds, it was shown that the discharge of excitation energy to the protective agent plays an important role in the mechanism of radiation proteczion. It has been found that the demand factor changes but little with a variation in the deg-ree of sovkhoz electrification. Installed capacity per one cattle head depending on the number of livestock is given. With several farms of the same type in one sovkhoz, it is recommended that a diversification factor be used in plotting the overall load curve; the factor is lower for a higher number of the same kind of farm.
