Vliyaniyp~ioniziruyushchego izlu- chen'ya na funktsiyu vysshikh otdelov tsentrallnoy nervzioy sistemy potomstva. Moscow, Medgiz, 1961, 79-101 TEXT: A study was conducted of the effects from small, fractiona- ,ed daily doses -)f ionizing radiation, on the enbryo to determine: 1) Whether 10 or 1 r doses cause changes of the higher nerve acti- Vity in the adult state and 2) whether the effect depends on the dose. The PYM-3 (RUM-3) X-ray apparatus, 190 kv, 15 ma, 0.5 M-Tn coD.ner and I mn aluminum filter, focal distance 3 M, 1 r/min ener- gy - iw~s used tc irradiate the pregnant rats. Testing of the higher nerve activity, according to the Kotlyarskiy method, was started on the 42nd day of postnatal development, in three stages: a) For- maTion of conditional reflexes, b) work in The stereotype, c) func- Card 33077 S/636/61/000/000/00155/01 3 The h3-gher nerve activity of adult ... D298/D303 -tional tesTingc 65 female rats were irradiated, subdivided into 3 .-roupsi 2-~ offspring irradiated with 10 r each, 22 - with 1 r each, and 210 control rats. Systematic irradiation of the mother rats cau- sed a drop in the leucocyte count toward the end of pregnancy; most significantly noted in the 10 r group. No other signs of radiation sickness occurred. A statistical analysis of about 150,000 figures, obtained from t:ie 65 rats. during formation of conditional reflex- es, work in the stereotype' and 6 functional tests, revealed the following facts: Difference in the higher nerve activity of rats irradiated repeatedly in the antenatal stage, as compared to nor- mna-Is. These differences were as follows: The irradiated animals sho,,-ied char 'ges in all the properties of the stimulation and inhibi- t-.on processes~ The strength of stimulation and internal active in- hibtl~on was lower. The equilibrium of stimulation and inhibition processes was destroyed, shifting toward a predominance of either sLimula-cion or inhibition. The mobility of these processes was re- dL~,_%ed. Thus, it is determined that, systematic irradiation of rats in the embryonic periodi with 10 or 1 r daily, leads to a change of ihe hi:rher nezve activity in these rats during the adult sta;::-e. CD 0 Card 214 33077 S/63 61/000/000/005/013 D29BY The higher ner-re acti v! ty of adult D303 This change --'s reflected in an impairment, weakening of all the ma7_n properties of the stimulation and inhibition processes. T e rela-~ionship cf the higher nerve activity changes lo the applied dose could only be determined through quantitative characteristics of the stimui.-.tion and inhibition processes which, in turn, are Jujged from various indices of the higher nerve activity. Over 100 obtained stat:-stical facts led to the conclusion, however, that a higher dose has a greater destructive action. The destructive ef'- fe--t is found to increase to a lesser degree than the irradiation dose. A _-omparison of several indices of the destruction degree of the higher nerve activity in rats, irradiated with a single dose, showed the former luo have a much lesser destructive action. The .ollowinS general conclusions were drawn: 1) Dail irradiation of pregnant rats with X-rays in doses of 10 and I r ~total of 200 r and 20 r) causes malformations in the offspring, in about 4 - 8 % of The cases; an increased mortality in the early postnatal period, subsequent ir~2reased illness. 2) According to aciographs on the 3rd ... eek D` posrratal development, the irradiated rats, as compared to the normals, showed an increased mobility and subsequent drop. The 10 j, dose has a greater effect than the 1 r dose, 3) Tho conditiona' reflex method points out a weakening in the force s~iriwlation and inhibition in adult animals, irradiated daily dt~ring .he antEnatal period with doses of 10 and 1 r. The equili- brium and mobility are impaired when irradiation with both 10 and i r doses is performed, although appare tl t a lesser extent than the force of stimulation and inhibition, 4 Destruction of the con- n e -ting function was noted in all the irradiated rats- The connect- i-r,g funct.-_.on wa.,:, severely impaired in two out of 45 irradiated rats A leoser nur.,i,)er of animals with a strong ~iigher nerve activity -!and a ;rea~~-_r number of weak animals, with impaired equilibrium and -nertu'--a. were noted in the irradiated groups~ 6) A lower abso- luze and re-Lative brain weight, and also a thinning of the brain ~or-,ex was noted in rats, chronically irradJaTed antenataily, 7) The destructive action depends on the dosed The 10 r dose has a ~_-eater effe.,t tL~lan the 1 r dose, both on -the higher nerve activi-ty a~ vie!! as oil the brain weight. On the 'Ah day of gravidity the abdoirdnal wall of the animals was opened and tho uterus was exuased. The rest of the body was protected by a lead shield. The uterus containing the fetus was then sub- jected to irradiation by :c-rays in a dose of one r. Uter the radiation treatment the uterus was :returned to the abdominal cavity and the abdominal opening.was sutured. The control rats, also in a state of gravidity., were similarly treated without being subjected to irradiation. The births were natural, with eight, of th.- animals having given birth to 5~ antenatally irradiated young ratsj and eight, of the controls, to 62 nonirradiated young rats. At the age of 45 days the offspring of the irradiated and.control Card 1/2 UDC: 612.825.1: 612.684.014-482-019- L 23471-66 ACC NR, AP6013996 ,rats were studied with rogard to their response'e'to conditioned-'refilexies. .It-was found that conditioned reflexes to light and'-Go-u,n,d,viire sit~~bllized at a considerably slower rate in the irradiated than in nonirradiated young rats - Further studies established a definite impairment of internal inhibi- .tion in the experimental animals as compared with the control rats. The experimenbe thus definitoly established that irradiation of rats with x-ray doses of one r on the 18i;h day-of embryonic development disturbs the inhibi- ..tion and excitation functions of the brain of the offspring.' During the design of friction coupLes it is recommended to Ch s the materials according 00 ;'ng velocities, insuf to the operating conditions--high specific loads., low sl~of ficient or complete lack of lubrication. Chrome plating1f e more expensive parts is practical because -;he wear of chrome-plated shaftsi1s insignificant. Roller hardening of machine parts working under seizui~e_conditions can have sig- nificant effects if the correct rolling regime is used. The roller hardening effectiveness depends on tho load applied to the roller and the roller shape Card 1/2 UDC: 621.787.4:621.81 L 06326-67 AGG NR: AR6013835 (specific pressure). Increasing the roller profile radius under the same loading d.t. c on~l ions decreases the rdening offoctiveriass. Very high loads on a small prc le radius also dec~tse the effectivenes3. The optimum loads on a roller foA bronze BrOTsS-6-6-3 are in the ra4ie 100-140 ka at a profile radius of 5mm. 2 illustrations. Bibliography of 7 titles.
