Abstract The treatment of tomato seeds (prior to sowing)
by 3 pezoent potassium bromide for 3 hours-ana
by a 2 percent soluticn of hydroxinone assisted
in increasing the harvest by 9-10 percent, the
size of the fruits and the ascorbic acid content
by 13-48 percent. Treatment of the seeds by potas-
sium permangate reduced the harvest by 8,,8 per-
cent.

snoval of solvent in vacuo yielded 2 g. yellow liquid ozonide,

Peroxides were removed by adding Pd black and boilin-

TEXT: The solubilization of cumene and diisopropylene benzene was studied
in solutions of some surface-active agents (SAA). -The following
conclusions were drawn: the solubilization of hydrocarbons increases with
increasing concentration of SAA. Solubilization-depends on the nature
both of the SAA and of the hydrocarbon. Additions influence the
solubilization of hydrocarbons, Na CO and particularly increases the

solubilization. In all cases a change in the solubilization rate was
observed in the SAA concentration range from 0.6 to 1.5%- From the SAA
studied, the sodium salt of isooctyl toluene sulfonic aoid gives the

Abstract : Various laboratory animals (mouse, rat, guinea pig, rabbit,
dog) sacrificed 3 hours after an intravenous injection of
0.1 ml of a 10% suspension of aluminum hydroxide displayed
reactive changes in the lungs, the liver, the spleen and
the kidney. There was a d1l.itation of the capillary bed
and a perivascular infiltration by histiocytic and, to a
lesser extent, lymphoid elements. The intensity of 'the re-
actions differed in various organs (maximal in the lungs,

This study refers to 1.000 suspected cases of ieptospirosis. in which the actiologi-
cal diagnosis was established 170 times. In a decreasing order. the leptospiroses
observed were the following: L. 396, L.pomona Prague, L.canicola, L.ictero-
haemorrhagiae. L.sejroe and L.bovis. The leptospirosis occurred in 676 of the
hospitalized patients, in 979 of the patients with jaundice. and in 6716 of those with
benIgn lymphocytic meningitis. Three quarters of all cases developed Ln the months
of July, August and September, 72% of the patients were males. The average age
period affected by L.396 and L.pomoria Prague was between 15 and 25 yr.. and be-
tween 30 and 35 yr. for L.canicola. The average total duration of the disease was
9.40 days.

L. Pomona 396 is the strain most frequently observed in Roumania. It provokes a
benign disease which, in 40 te 601o of cases. involves the meninges. ' No fatal
cases have been reported. L. Pomona Prague causes a benign disease. occasion-
ally accompanied by pulmonary complications. In the region of Timisoara, it was
detected in 83% of cases, provoking icteric forms in a large proportion (45%). L.
canicola occupies 3rd place. frequently provoking a very prolonged disease. which
assumes an icteric form; fatal cases have been reported. L. icterohaemorrhagiae
occupieF. 4th place from the point of view of incidence; it causes a very severe and
prolonged disease, which often produces hepatorenal lesions (15-5070). In the
Roumanian People's Republic. the course may also be benign. The various forms
of leptospirosis registered in this country generally have a benign course and a
low mortality. Specific treatment has been abandoned, in view of the benignity of
the cases observed in this country, and the failures registered in treatments with
