Radiofizika, v. 6, no. 5, 1963, 1062-1065 TOPIC TAGS: klystron oscillator, klystron frequency fluctuation, klystron spectral density, spectral line width,.klystron oscillation analysis, frequency spectrum density, klystron frequency spectrum ABSTRACT: The results of tests of the frequency fluctuations of a klystron generator are reported. The spectral density of the fre- quency fluctuations was measured by the method of I. L. Bernshteyn (Izv. AN SSSR,ser. fiz.,,v. 14, 145, 1950), and the experimental setup was similar to that described by V. S. Troitskiy and V. V. Khrulev (Radiotekhnika :L.elektronika.,v. 1,:832, 1956). The spectral density Card 1/2 ACCESSION NR; 04007196 could be measured at fixed frequencies fKom 100 cps to 20 kcs. The tested klystron '~ erated at 9.1 Gd,and the experiments were in the. QP 7th and 8th osci I~lation zones. The relative widths in these zones were found to be',8.8 x 10 and lj4 x 10:. J, respectively, and are of the same order of magnitude as at"low frequencies. "In conclusion the authors are grateful to L. M. Voly*nkina who took on a major part in the performance of the measurements." The specific resistance was measured by sounding probe techniques for these specimens which were heat-treatled at 510, 620, and 700C respectively. The conditions of thermal treatment being the same, polyacrylonitrile fibers of greater orientation showed a greater conductivity. The activation energy was found to be independent of the degree of orientation. It may be assumed that the Cardl/2 ACCESHON NR: Ap4oogi5i electroconductivity increases because of a possible decrease in numier of inter- molecular barriers and an increase in mobility of current carriers. A. 2ITLE- Phase diagram for tile system aluminum-boron PERIODICAL: Zhurnal strukturnoy khimii, v. 2, no. 6, 1961, 748-750 TEXT- The authors give the results of the first stage of their study of the phase diagram for the system Al-B and the condi- tions of the synthesis of aluminum bori-des at temperatures of up to 14000C. Of the scientists, who also investigated the borides of aluminum only E. J. Felfen succeeded in obtaining AlB2 as the main reaction product during the sintering of Al and B; moreover, there is no information in literature regarding the conditions of exist- ence of other aluminum-boride phases. Mixed and compressed Al-B powder was first heated for 30 min. in a vacuum at about 40000. Purified argon was then admitted, after which the reaction mass was Card 1/3 3of,a6 S/192/61/002/006/004/004 Phase diagram for -the system D228/D304 heated at higher temperatures. In addition to the X-ray analysis of the pure phases and the determination of their pycnometric density, part of the borides was studied thermographically in an apparatus designed by N. A. Nedumov. The experimental results show that the 0 U formation of AlB2 starts at '500, and that the most suitable temper- ature for the process is 8000. AlB 2 begins to decompose at higher temperatures: after prolonged heating at 9500 the reaction products consist of AlB2 , Al, and AlB 12* The data of the thermal analysis were also confirmed by further tests which disclosed the formation of AlB2 and cL-AlB 12 a tetragonal modification containing 82-8% B and 16-75/o Al, at temperatures of e- 9000 and :~-10000 respectively. The pycnometric density of d--AlB 12 was found to be 2-62 g./cm3. In conclusion the authors state that the conditions of fornation of AlB 12 and AlBio will be determined in a subsequent study. Doklady, v, 141, no. 4v 19617 884 - 8a6 TEM The Al - B system was studied, since literature data as to its itution diagram are contrad-Ictory, A contact-free high temperature consz~' - thermal analysis (up to 28000C) was obtained by means of the SHTA-1 W MTA-1) apparazus devised by N~ A. Nedumov (ZhFKh, _~4~ 184 (,.96o)). Pressed rodlets of 5 g were prepared from Al (purity 99-99%) and B (purity 019.511,), melted in purified helium in corundum or BeO crucibles and ~;ooied at a rate of 20 deg/m-Ln,. Fig.1 shows that the Al - B system is complex and contains several perizectoid transformations-. The variation of the lattice period of Al remains within the limit of error, Thus, x-ray data cannot be used to make conclusions as to the solubility of B in Al.
