ABSTRAOT: The results from studies of the flow parts of centrifugal compressor
machines are given. The effect of intake chambers at various periods of time were
is~udied. Tests of a final stage with a pump-type rotor with a short bladeless
diffuser and a symmetric pear-shaped helix made in the presence of an intake chamber
and with axial intake gave practically identical results (see Fig. 1). The effect
of certain rotor parameters is studied on the basis of an earlier work of V. F. Ris
(Tsentrobezlinyye koar?ressornyye mashiny. Izd. Mashinostroyeniye, 1964). It is found
that when the exit angle is increased from 15 to 900 the efficiency of the final

b24 is reduced to 0.0131, the maximum values of efficiency are reduced by only 1%
(see Fig. 2). The effect of bladed-diffuser geometry is also studied.

ABSTRACT2 Synthesis and properties of graft copolymers of secondary callulo

acetate (I) and cellulose triacetate (11) with poly-2-mathyl-5-vinylpyridine (III)'
are described. The products are of interest because the presence of III (con-
taining ionogenic groups) imparts to I and 11 such valuable properties as enhanced
adhesion, ion exchangeabilitys and antistatic behavior, The graft copolymerizaticn
was performed according to the method described in an earlier paper by B. P. Morir~:
Yu. 0. Kryazhev, and Z. A. Rogovin (Vysokomolek. soyed., 7, 1463, 1965). This
method involves thermal decomposition of peroxides prepared by c~xidation of

the polymers H202
determined by the concentration of H202 and by the time of oxidation. Material
containing up to 64% of grafted III was obtained. However~ about 70% of cellulose:
acetates does not enter the reaction. Solubility of graft copolymer of I and III
and solubilities of I,, IIIj and the mechanical mixture of I and III) were inves-
tigated by turbidometric titration, and the results are summarized in Fig. 1.

ABSTRAM The authors have studied the transmission spectra and refi-active- indideq
of glasses with composition NaB -NaP03 and XBeF XPO in view of the iscmorphism

glasses were obtained by melting the componentsin a platinW,crucible at temper-

ABSTFACT: Tn general the article deals with deficiencies in the teaching.
of economics at the Ural Polytechnical Institute and with the
measures adopted to eliminate them. This institute, the big-
gest in the Ural region, trains metallurgical engineers, bui. -
ing engineers, chemists, mechanics, electrical engineers, mio-
technicians, economists and other specialists. The article
tells of the liaison between the Chair of Economics and Soviet
Industry, and on the inadequacy of the means of instruction.
In developihg measures to improve the training in economics
the Administration of the Institute was guided by the direct-
ives of the 20th Congress of the Soviet Communist Party. Some
of the measures are: In all raculties. except two, the phy-
sico-technical and power engineering, instruction courses in
"Economics of the Individual Branches" and "Organization and

Some teachers of the Chair of Economics and Production Organ-
ization, for instance Professor A.S. Osintsev, Dotsents V.I.
Ganshtak, P,A. Zhukov, I.A. Rozenberg, A.M. Vershinin and
others, regularly publish their works on these subjects. In
Nov/Dec 1956, practical training for the students of the
metallurgical, mechanical and radio-technical faculties in
Sverdlovsk was provided for at the Uralmashzavod, the Ural
Turbo-Motor Works (Urallskiy turbomotornvy zalrod), the Verkh-
Isetskiy [Sverdlovsk] Metallurgical Works (Verkh-Isetskiymetallurgi-
cheskiy zavod), and in the VerkbnRya Pyshma 'Works. This ar-
ticle is based on the results of a study by the Commission of
the Chief Administration for Polytechnical. and Machine Con-
struction Educational Institutions of the Ural Polytechnical
Institute, on the economic training of students.

ABSTRACT: The author reviews the production of electric power
in the USSR during WW II, 71hen the German armies
entered the territory of~the USSR, numerous power
plants were dismantled and their equipment was ship-
ped in about 11,000 RR cars to the eastern regions,
where the enlargement of existing power plant's and
the construction of new ones was speeded up simulta-
neously. The construction of power plant buildings
was continued in winter, even during the most adverse
weather conditions, During the 'War, mainly thermal
power plants were built, since the time required for

This is confirmed by reference 7 for several species, only for
U. americana. and U. turkestanica the somatic chromosome number
is 56. What the foreign botanists understand by U. turkestanica
has, however, hitherto remained unclear~ sometimes this
denotation is used for the species mentioned in the title. It is
a culture species in the Kazakhstan and in Soviet Central Asia.
It is closely related to the U. pumila L., an uncultivated
species if East-Siberia and the Par East. Either species belongs
to the section Madocarpus Domort, the series PuDIlae O.K.Schn.,
and the subsection Foliaceae C.K.Schn. 2he species mentioned in
the title is not refarded -as an independent species 'by all
systematics. It is often re.-larded as variety (ief 2) by -foreiEn
pub!ications or as a synonym t.:) other species respectively.
ADart from its unclear systematic position, U. pinnato-ramosa.
is quickly Crowing and drought-resistant to a great extent. This

Abstract : To determine the nickel content, the nickel ores were dis-
solved in aqua regia, after which the dissolved portion
was analyzed by a chemical method, and the precipitate was
dissolved by spectral method. The source of light was an
ac arc, and the spectrograph ISP-22 was used. In precipi-
tates, containing talkite-chlorite-shales, quartz diorites,
and serientinites, with a nickel content from 0.02 to 1%,
the nickel silicate was determined. quartz was introduced
into the sample to serve as a buffer, and copper o)dde was

introduced to serve as an internal standard. The sample
was completely burned in the crater of a carbon electrode.
The standards were prepared synthetically by moistening
the quartz with the solution and then drying and grinding.
The analytical pair of lines was Ni( 3050.8 A) and
Cu( 3o63.4 A). The discrepancies betveen the 5pec-
tral and chemical results do not exceed 4% with a con-
tent greater than 0.1%, and _:~:-30% at smaller contents.
The scheme used to eliminate the slit is given, the shape
of the electrodes is described, as is also the adapter for
sharpening the lower electrode.

ABSTRACT: The paper reports an experimental check of the correctness of the

ABSTRACT: The use of an effect predicted theoretically by one of the authors (Niki;R
-Aivov, Fiz. tverdogo tela v. T, 1248, 1965), consisting in nonlinear splitting of E
::jgnals of pairs of exchange-coupled Cr64' ions in corundum, is proposed A-Or a unique
.n'erpretation of the many weaker supplementary EFelsignals in corundum due to pairs
of exchange-coupled chromium ions. The effect was used to investigate e_%-oerimentally~
the spectral regions from 480 to 680 G and from 850 to 1200 G in a corundum crystal ~
containing 0.05% chronLium by weight. The RE 1_301 apparatus vas used for the measure-I
ment. For H 11 E 11 C3 (H and E are the electric and magnetic field intensities and C.31
the corundum optical axis) the influence of the electric field was observed in e
signals at 525, 590, 926j, 994., and 1093 G. From plats of the derivative of the ab-
