TITLE, About Rolling With Over-Reduction PERioucn, stal 1, iQ6o 10 827-828 1ANo. 9, Pp. TEXT: Ln recent years many experiments have been carried out to utilize the "reserve" frictional forces in the rolling process in order to increase the rate of reduction. Several suggestions have been made to employ the optimu-m re- lation between the forces pushing and pulling the strip after the bite, for in- stance, to use rapaMd strips, special devices for the forced pushing of the strip, %to pr,~ss t-he rolls after the strip has been pushed in with a special me- chanism, eto. According to experience in the Magnitogorskiy metallurgicheskiy kodLnat (Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine), these methods have certain draw- bw?-,:~s. In the firit place,-~the increase in reduction did not always increase the output of the sontinuous, semi -continuous and cross country mills. When rolling with red-actions whIch are near the limit of the bite conditions, cezvtain difficul- ties a-rise. For instance, the bite becomes unreliable, thus slowing down ~he pro- cess speed, slippage also increases the time of the rolling process, breakdowns of the machine be--ome more fr-.x,,~nt, etc. Evidently, rolling with reductions be- Card 1/3 85 0, S/133/m/000/009/008/03 5 Ao54/AG29 About Follina With Over-Reduction yond a certain limi-. will even aggravate these phenomena. The reserve of fric- tional forces in shaping mills appears to be sligh+~ly lower than In theory* 8oft steel strips aro nipped fairly easily at M = 19-220, but soon after the grip they tug and skid Interfering with the rhythm of the operation. The increase in 7zhe rate of reduction is suggested mainly for blooming mills by several research workers. However, for this kind of mills the limits set for the bits do not cor- resnond to the normal operation of the electric motor. The best way of increas- ing thie output of shaping -mills, as found in the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Ccm- i9 bine, is the differentiation of e dimensions of products, by which the reduc- tions could be -onelderably decreased on shaping mills. However, according to the author the outPut of the mills can be raised more efficiently by working with 10 or even with 1-2 etands operating in the conventional manzrer than by using 8 stazids and apply groeves or other mea,,sures to increase the rate of reduction. Ln, some cases It is justified to inorease redustion, for instance, on old-type shape mills with three-rc~!_Jer roughdng stands. On these mills an increased rate of re- duotion re_f::u_:'tIng in a smaller number of passes, to so-me extent Increases pro- ductivity, Also on -zome types of continuous iri!L~ gocd re-aults can be obtained Card 2/3 SHTERNOVP Mildmil Mikhaylovich; KOCF=CV9 I.M.9 retsenzent; SKRYABIN, N.P., izd-va; TURKINA, Ye.D. It may also be used by students at schools of higher education. COVEMCSt Volume 2 of the handbook reviews problems connected with the preparation of metal for rollingthe quality and quality control of rolled products, and designs of roll passes in merchant mills. The following topics are dis- ouooodi prococcos of manufacturing-nodifinishod. and finished rolled products (the rolling of blooms, billets, ohapau, boamsp rails, strips, wire plates, sheets, and the drawing of steel wire), hot-dippod tin blates, lacquered plates, floor plates, tubes made by different methods, and special types of rolled products. Problems of the organization of rolling operations are reviewed, and types of rolled products manufactured In the USSR are shown. No pqrsonalities are mentloned. There are no references.
