A. Ander-_---~._.. son s method). The apparatus used is illustrated and describedi; it was found that the work function increases steadily.from copper to nickel. After the alloys were etched in a 5% ammonia solution, the work function increased owing. to the formation of a passivating layer.of oxide or chomisorbed oxygen. The resonance absorption spectra were obtained with a Mossbauer spectrometer with a moving source having a velocity ranging from 0 to 13.9% kept at room tem- _30 MM/sec. The source was Sn perature. The absorber temperature ranged from -196 to +250C. Variation of the viscosity of a glycerin suspension by diluting the latter with water, at constant temperature, increased the line width in accordance with the law formulated by Singwi and Sjolander (Physo Rev* ve 120p 10931, 1960)- The same takes place in a ;L.Card l/2 L 22120-66 ACC NR: Ap6oo492o e2 suspension in a silicone oil whose viscosity is altered by changing the tempera- ture. The results are analyzed from the point of view of the mechanism whereby the 7 quantum is absorbed by t~_e SnQ2. It is concluded that in suspensions, un- like ordinary liquids) the absorption does not occur spontaneously, nor does it occur within a certain time interval of the order of the half-life of the nuclear level, but it must be assumed that the suspension particles stay in equilibrium during some time. The absorption of the 7 quantum then depends not only on the instantaneous particle velocity but also on the time interval between the jumplike changes of velocity which occur In suspension, which have a statistical nature similar to that of Brownian motion. This feature uncovers interesting possibili- ties for the investigation of the structure of -liquids and of the 7 quantum ab- sorption mechanism. Orig. art. has: 8 figures and 10 formulas. "On tile Significance of Certain Biochemical Investigations in the Course of Trichinosis" Jena, Angewandte Parasitologie, Vol 7, No 4, Nov 1966, pp 270-275. Abstract: It was shown that a number of biochemical investigations can assist in studies and diagnosis of human trichinosis. These investigations include the behavior of the blood protein; the behavior of C-reactiveprotein in the acute stages of the disease; the behavior of free aminoacids in the blood se- rum; and the behavior of the glutamin-oxalacetic acid transaminase. The signi- ficance of each of these investigations was described. 9 references, including 7 Polish and 2 Western. Bright, fine- grained cadmium deposits were obtained on the titanium cathode (platinum anode)E~cm anelectrolyte initially containing 200 to 250 g1l cadm171m and 20 g1l sulfuric acid with a cathode currentd~n~tY4 50 to 60 amp/m2. Spectral analysis of the melted deposit showed minute residues of such impurities as Cu, Pb, Ag. Si,, Mg, Ca, Al, Ni, and Fe, These impurities should be re- moved prior to electrolysis; the Pb, -Ag, Al, Fe, and Ni by precipitation with 2 g /1 F2 (SOO,a:id the CU either by extr~tction with dithizone or precipitation on cadmium spqnge. In refining the comm er cial- grade cadmium. the best results were obtained - With double electrolysis: electrolysis with a soluble anode produced a Cd sponge which was dissolved in sulfuric acid; the solution was purified as above and wedasthe electrolyte. Spectral analysis of the refined cadmium showed that it does not contain any impurities except traces of Ca and Mg and 0.00OZ7QCu, The optimum electrolysis conditions are as follows: cathode current density, 50 to 60 arhp/m~ electrolyte temperature, 20 to 25~C; acidity, not less than 40 g11; and cadmium concentration, not less than 50 g/I.In'a tiydrodildi~ic Eeid solution the current density must be raised to 100-150 am~/M2; cadmium refined in this manner has had approximately the same residual resistivity as.above. Arrangement for investigating the kinetics of thermal U decomoosition of solids during irradiation PERIODICAL: Zhurnal fizicheskoy khimii, v. 35, no. 6, 1961, 1370-1371 TEXT: The authors describe an apparatus for observing the kinetics of thermal decomnosition of solids at 100-2500C during irradiation~ The arrangement consisted mainly of an electric furnace kept at constant temperature by a thermocouple. An X-ray tube 3-bTB-200 (3-BTN-200) was used as radiation source. The pickup of the dosimeter was attached below the furnace (roentgenometer chamber 'PM-1 -M (RM-1 -M) or a chemical dosimeter cell). The riser of the manometer was arranged in an inclined position for a more accurate reading of the pressure in the apparatus., A Wheatstone bridge circuit was used for automatic reading. A platinum wire was sealed in the inclined manometer tube (diameter 0.09 mm)- The deviation from zero tn the bridge circuit was measured with an electronic patentiometer,21M-0.9MI ~EPP-0.9MO, The sensitiveness of this equipment is controllable by a Card 1/4 24658 S./076/61/035/006/011/013 -,-Zan,~.emen -1 f or -i ga tir!~ th e 3127/3203 S 30 C !A 710": Toms41-y institut (Tomsk Polytechnic 7n2tj. t,)' 3T-T:12,:.:I'_, TED: J! n i-. --, r5 Le~,-~en] to Fi s. 1: (1) %crtically fixed electric furnace, (2). khermo- re!,ulator with ph,otocontact, (3) radiation source,'(4) dosimeter, (5) reacTion vesse-,, ~U :Ig manome-Ger, kt? potentiometer, ",,potentiometer, (10) (11) metal rod for holdin- the spoon, t, (14) rheostat, (15, 16) bl-ermocouples, ev-~cuation tube, (1q) valve. Doklady*, v, 156, no* 5,1964j, 114j-3146 TOPIC TAGS: silver azide, barium azide, silver azide thermal decomposition, baritip azide thermal decomposition, ultraviolet irradiation, silver nitride 'ABSTRACT: The authors studied th6 kinetics of thermal decomposition of silver and barium azides. Analysis was carried out with and vithout-irradiation at the instant of decomposition. 11any.authors contend, that the thermal 4ecomposition rate is determined by the process of exciting electrons out of the valency zone into the conductivity zone. The authors believed that the best method for verifying this hypothesis is the course of decomposition at the instant of irradiation.. The test specimens weie analyzed by a! technique and on an apparatus whi6h was-described by A.~ 1. Skorik and V, V. Boldy-*rev (Zh. F. Kh. 35j, (1961), 6). The Ag N was decomposed at Z7000. Fifteen milligram weighed portions were USed., 1r;adiating the sample with X-rays or ultraviolet, Card 1/) ACCESSION NR.- AP4040954 liEht at the instant of decomposition has no effect upon the rate of its thermal decomposition. A gamma-current greater that 0.4 x 10- 9 amps was not obserXed, the photocurrent 5.0 0.3 x 10 - 8 amp at a background current of 1.7 x 10 , 0 amp. Barium azide was thermally decomposed at 1250C *ith a dosage rad min. Findings show that irradiation of tho bariu'm azi'ab'sample with X-rays at the instant of decomposition inereases, thel!maximum decomposition rate and red4cesthe induction period. The authors conclude that the hypothesis concerning the limiting role of electron transition from the valency zohe int6 the conductivily bond during the thermal decomposition of ion salts can be valid only with a specifia ratio bel'-ween the concencentiations of free electrons and effective electron tr4ips.- In particular, thin hypothesis does not correspond to fact in the case of silver azide, Orig. art. hass 3 figures and 7 equations. D239/D301 + - + at is described for P n-n and n+ -p-p+ structures. An arrangeme, pulling germanium monocrystal in the specified way, ~-Tith p-n junc- tions the metho(Is reduce to the groirn- junction method.. A studv is made of the electrical parameters of structuros of p+ .-n-n+ ai~d n+ -P-P + which are indispensable for preparing high sensitivity devices with carrier-injection in the space-charge region. The dis- tribution of impurities in the intermediate layer is evaluated by curves of junction-capacity against potential. Evaluation of the width of the intemediate layer -and the distribution of electric field in the -LLeirhborhood of the lockin-,, layer of a p-n junction is made by potential distribution curves. The specific resistivity of the crermanium in this layer lies in the range 5 to 20-30 olum.cm. The ~"Vidth of this layer is about 20-40 microns. C-A:ostracter's note: Complete translation2 Card 2/2
