TITLE: Thermoelectric Affect (Termoelektricky jev)
PERIODICAL: -Sdelovaci Technika, 1959, Nr 2t pp 57-58 (Czechoslo-
vakia)
ABSTRACT: This phenomenon h as been known for 140 years as pre-
sented by Seebeck and Peltier but it was not before
the end of IM II that progress was achieved in this
field, In the Soviet Union one of the first thermo-
generators was produced to be used as a source of
electrical energy. These thermogenerators will be
used especially in far-off regions to replace sources
of electrical current. In Czechoslovakia, one of
the sections of CSAV deals with thermoelectrical
problems, more particularly a team of the Research
Institute for Telecommunications Technique (Vyzkumny
ustav sdelovaci techniky A.S. Popov). A thermogenera-
tor was produced using an intermetallic compound of
zinc and antimony as a positive electrode and con-
Card 1/2 stant as a neaative electrode. An accomplishment- f

5 1'1 was reached, a tension of 6 V and 800 m-,', at an
efficiency of 3.5%. In the CSR, as well as abroad,
alloys of tellurium were used, but since they are
more expensive than the ZnSb compound, the final
choice fell upon ZnSb. This compound being fragile,
its solidity can be increased by adding bismuth in
a proportion of 6%. For the main components Zn and
Sb the optimal efficiency of 12% was accepted as a
basis and accordin '- to M. Telkesova their proportion
is 43% of zinc to 57% of stibium. The author-further
described the special instruments for measuring basic
parameters such as thermic conductibility, different-
ial thermoelectrical force and specific impedance '*
In his conclusion, he stresses the results achieved
in the Soviet Union with serial production of thermo-
generators and mentions possible future applications
of the Seeback phenomenon, as for instance replacing
the dynamo in automobiles. There are 5 circuit dia-
grams, 2 graphs, 2 photographs and 8 references, 1 of
which is German, 2 Czech, 1 French, 3 American and 1
Card 2/2 Soviet.

During the course of WnesB the regulating influence of the cerebral cortex on the
subcortical centres stops. The vasomotor system become.s particularly sensitive
to even insignificant stimuli. During excitement there appears a permanent excit-
ability of the sympathetic system, which induces an exhaustion of the chromophilic
system of the adrenalB. In this state different stimuli may cause an acute deficien-
cy of the circulatory system. The dilatation of the blood vessels in the brain and
the penetration of the liquid part of the blood outside the vessels Is caused by the
deficiency of the vasomotoric centres and may also be a result of an accumulation
of carbon dioxide. provoking a dilatation of the brain arterioles. Sudden death is
caused by a marked oedema of the brain and an Increase of Intra-cranLal pressure
which lead to sudden circulatory disturbances in the cerebral trunk. Congestion
and oedema of the brain as well as the exhaustion of chromophilic substance in the
adrenals are typical. WLIczkowBki - L6dt

ABSTRIM: -,n this article the author discusses the action of
press-driving double crank system. After detailed
analysis he concludes that by application of an equal-
izing mechanism to a press driving system the speed ofL//
the idle movement could be increased. Such an increase
will shorten the time of idle movements and automati-
cally increase the frequency of working strokes and,
o.-F' course, the output of the machine. He warns however,
that such an equalizer could be fitted only to a press
with an automatic feeder. Without the feeder. there

Title : Histological Modifications of the Liver in the
Process of Therapy of Burns with Tannin
Orig Pub : Patol. polska, 1956, 79 No 39 289-305.
Abstract : It was established in experiments on guinea pigs
that tannin is absorbed through the undamaged
skin and at first damages the vessels and then the
parenchyma of the liver. Silver nitrate when ap-
plied together with tannin in the therapy of burns
has no effect on the picture of the changes in
the liver.
