TEYT: The authors considers trees; i.e. such graphs in which
any two verti(;es can be connected in a unique way. The number of edges
w-eeting at a vertex is called the rank of the latter. The vertices of
ra,-&. I are called blind Dasses and those of a rank larger than 2 are
called knots. The blind passes are numbered fror-.1 1 to n and the length
ofL the path between two blind passes i and k is denoted byp, , The set

arbitrary set of numbers having double indices is also called a metric.
The author proves that every real metric defines a unique tree. The re-
sults can be utilized for recording, graphs.

methods of changing the concn . were used: Th Pre,. iously,

method 11 in which the mole sum of SbBrs and AlBrj Was
*ept const., at 0.4 moles, per mole of ErBr. The data ob-
tained in method I were plotted against the ratio of SbBr,/-
Alllr~, whereas those of method 11 were plotted against the
% Sbllr~ calcd. on the basis that the sum of SbBr,. a9d
AlBr3 is 100%. The sp. elec. cond. x in method I rises
,Slowly, passes through a flat max. and slowly declines as the
concn. of SbBr3 increases. The point on the concn. curve,
corresponding to the max.-does not yield a stoichiametric
;relation. When K is cor. for the viscosity q (CA. 44_

the curve x vs. % SbBrz risesL contiattously as the % SbBr,
decreases. The q correction does not modify the curve.
It is concluded that neither complex formation nor the
compn., if formed, can be established by only one method of

TITLE: Use of polarographic analysis for determining the bulk content of molybdenum
in soil
SOURCE: Khimiya v sel'skom khozyaystve, v. 4, no. 1. 1966, 14-16
TOPIC TAGS: soil chemistry, polarographic analysis, molybdenum, electrolysis
ABSTRACT: A polarographic method based on previous research work is proposed for
determining bulk content of molybdenum in soil. Molybednum. may be determined in
quantities as low as 1.7-10-6 g by proper selection of the base electrolyte and
extraction method. The M8-2000 visual polarograph No 734 at the Institute of
Chemistry, Groky University was used in the experiment with 1/25 of the total galvano-
meter sensitivity, which was T-1-10 10 a/mm/m. The experiments were conducted at a
temperature of 201C. The anode was a saturated calomel electrode connected to the
electrolyzer by a low-resistance agar switch with potassium chloride. The half-wave
potential for reduction of molybdenum was 0.30 v. Twz molybdenum is almost completely
extracted from I.he soil by treatment in concentrated nitric, sulfuric and hydrochloric
acids. The process consists of roasting 2-3 g of air-dried soil in a porcelain vessel

for calcination of organic material, and then adding 1.5 ml of nitric (d=1.4) and
sulfuric W=1.810 acids per gram of soil after which the mixture is set under an
exhaust hood and evaporated until dry. When the resultant material has cooled, 0.3 MI.
of concentrated sulfuric acid, 0.5 ml of concentrated hydrochloric acid and 0.5 ml of
Perhydrol are added for every gram of soil and the mixture is again evaporated until
dry. The resultant compounds are dissolved by adding 2-3 ml of concentrated hydro-
chloric acid to the dry residue which is then heated, diluted with 10-15 ml of
distilled water, boiled and poured through a folded ash-free filter. The operation
is repeated several times for more complete extraction of the molybdenum compounds.
After precipitation and heat treatment, a few drops of concentrated amonnia solution
were added to the residue followed by heating and addition of the base electrolyte
(3 MI. 3 n. NH4NO3-0-15 n. NH03)- Hydrogen was then passed through the solution and
the polarogram was taken. Tests of the method show a divergence of 2-3% between the
polarographic and colorimetric methods for molybdenum determination in soil. The
relative error in polarographic analysis is less than 5.5%. Orig. ax-t. has-.'

ABSTRACT: Research methods and equipment for experiments are described. It is
noted in the deductions that the use of a local ultrasonic radiator. stabilizes the
process of machining tool steels with a nonprofiled electrode. The intensity of the
process increases up to 60T6. The use of an ultrasonic radiator with a capacity of at
most 150-200 v is c-,:pedient in practice. Ultrasonic intensification of the process
allows the method of machining parts with a regular-shape electrode to be adapted in
the production of st-~ '(~ 1'precision punching dies. 1'~4 -illustrations. Bibliographyhas

ABSTRACT: The author concentrates his article on control work in
correspondence courses and mentions in -reference the Chair
of Political Economy of the Voronezh Institute of Technical
Forestry, which has obtained satisfactory results. in "his
connection he speaks of the work of A.Frolov and A.Yaros-
lavtsev "~3alaries Under Socialism".
He cites the incontestable value of control work and
makes some suggestions on the subject. Correspondence
students have to submit three control works, one dealing with
pre-capitalist and capitalist methods of production, and two
treating socialist methods of production. The author proposes
rejecting themes on pre-capitalist methods, considering know-
ledge of capitalist methods more important. The existing form
calls for many works on ode problem, while a range of other
important matters is riot dealt with.
The author also suggests organizing time limits for the sub-
Card 1/2 mission of control works. He suggests fixing a date of sub-

Notes on the Teitching of Political Economy by Corrpspondence
mission (for instance, one month before the beginning of
examinations). He proposes indicating to each student certain
themes in three fundamental sections of political economy, and
concretizing the sug,~,-ested themes, such as the Marxist-Leninist
theory on two phases of the communist society; the creation
of a material-industrial basis of Communism, etc. Such a
formulation will help students to think independently, to expose
their ideas in a precise way and to compose their working plan.
The author recommends introductory lectures during the summer
examination session of the 1"nd course.
He mentions the evaluation of control work, which must be
done by explaining mistakes and errors and giving practical
advice. Correspondence students must realize the close con-
nection between theoretical matters and concrete facts. Teaching
literature, he adds, should be supplied from a special center.

TEXT: The author describes the constructionand principle of
operation of an instrument for reproducing and conserving a unit
hardness according to Rockwell scale. Its special features are:
direct application of load to the tip; automatic pressing-in of
the tip; a rigidity of framet eliminating the effect of its de-
.Lormation on the result of measurement; no action of opprating
load oA the parts supporting the measuring deVices; error of
measurement of deformation about 10 times less than in usual

Title t Permeability of the human skin-for, carbonate and bicarbonate ions
Periodical I Dok. AN SSSR 99/5, 869-872, Dee 11, 1954
Abstract 9 The results derived in studying the permeability of the human skin for
1 carbonate and bicarbonate ions are analyzed. The method employed in.mea-

is explained. The changes in the cmeentration of the matter in the solli--.
tion were iwediately, recorded by a counter placed over the surface of the
skin saturated with a solution containing radioactive' isotopes C14. A re
duction in the number of atomic decompositions recorded by the counter in..-.

dicates a reduction in the concentration of the matter in the solution thus
-
indicatirg that it bad penetrated into the skin. Five references: 3-USSR

Abstract In 11 patients with ulcer diseases or with hyperacid gas-
tritis, duodenal content was extracted with the aid of a
duodenal sonde every 15 minutes before and after a 0.5 per-
cont solution of IIC1 was infused into the duodenum. The
activities of anylase, of trypsin, of lipase, of carbonate
alkali, and the admixture of bile, mucus, and pH of this
duodenal content were then established. Amilase and lipase
((;cneral and atoxyl resistant) of the blood were deternined,
