PURPOSE: This book is intended for scientists, engineers, and technicians parti-
cipating in the study, testing, manufacture, and application of lube oils for
aircraft gas turbine engines.
COVERAGE: The authors review the achievements in the field of gas turbine lubri-
cation. They discuss physicochemical properties of the basic types of petroleum
and synthetic oils and consider current trends in the search for high grade oils
for gas tuilbine engines. An analysis is made of the application of lubricating
oils, their requirements, their performance, and changes which occur in them due
to working conditions. The authorsrithsnk-N&I. Frankenshteyn, B.D. Zaloga, and

PERIODICAL: Uch. zap. LGU, 1957, Nr 217, pp 17-21
ABSTRACT: Some criteria are adduced for the stability of nonlinear sys-
tems subjected to large initial perturbations. The evolvement
of these stability criteria is based on certain considerations
put forth by S.A. Stebakov (Dokl. AN SSSR, 1954, Vol 95, Nr 3).
We cite one of the criteria as an example. Conditions suffic-
ient for the asymptotic stability of the system

Reviewer's comment: The proofs adduced in the paper are incomplete. For
some of the systems examined (example 3) the literature contains more gen-
eral stability criteria. Replacing the standard terminology associated with
the second Lyapunov method by such terme as " 0 -shell", "inward con-
ductivity", etc., is deetro~d unjustified, inasmuch as the problems consid-
ered by the author are well within the ambit of the ordinary Lyapunov stab-
ility problems.

Abstract: In graftings; between Marglob tomatoes and Delikates eggplants
the content of chlorophyll (Getri's methr-d with- Godnev and Te-
rentlyev's modification) and carotene (Savi-nov and Lushchenskayals
method) was determined by using an electrocolor-Imeter over the
whole of the vegetation period both at the place of the graft
and in the seed generation deriving from xulnerous graftings in
the second (from the top) pair of leaves. The tomatoes contained
morepigments than the eggplants. The majdmin pigment content
vas noted in the flowering phase. In grafts of the direct and
inverse combinations of graftings a lowering of the pigment con-

Investigations covered 25 leucotic deaths (19 died of chronic myelosis and 6 of
lymphadenoma). The patients had been treated with urethane, embichine and by
X-rays. 'rhe characteristic leucostasis in the pulmonary vessels and capillaries
was completely lacking; hilar lymph nodes were seldom affected (2 cases). Modern
treatment of leucosis often causes destructive vascular changes in the pulmonary
circulation, with plasmorrhagia. pulmonary infarction and erythrocytic haemo-
I lysis. Another striking feature was the frequent occurrence of corpora amylacea
whielt may be breakdown products from alveolar epithelial cells.

Among the 352 cases of leucosis (1950-1953) encountered in pathological institutes
in Moscow (autopsies on children excluded), tb was simultaneously present in only
39 (11%). Exudative- cavita ry froms of tb were scarce, which is attributed to a de-
creased leucocytic reaction ard to obstruction of the lymphatic ducts in leucosis.
The tuberculous process leads to a severe and atypical course of the leucosis. So-
called 'rejuvenescence of the leucosis' is not a specific phenomenon or tb, but is
also observed in urethan therapy or embichin therapy. Brandt Berlin (V. 15,16)

ABSTIR.'XT The properties of molding po,.-,,ders for coal electro"es are due
to the annealing process; the amount of volatile components
is proportionate to that of the bindin.- sul-ostance. Annealin.-
is done in a muffle furnace at 820+ 200 for 30 miputes. A
"short-cut" method is described in the present ~a-)er. The
criterion for the volatile substance content is their
luminescence. When irradiated with ultraviolet rays malthenes
exhibit yellow-amber, asphaltenes dark brown luminescence,
.hile carbenes do not luminesce at all. The time req.-aired
for complete calcination is marked by the moment -uhen
luninescence of the coke residue ceases. The luminescence

Molding powder made of a noot-pitch mixture Nr 1 was examined,
annealing being carried out at 820+ 200 for 5,10,20 and 30
minutes (Table 1). Reference were carried out in
two laboratories by laboratory workers Girina, Kolkina and
Timakova. Maximum deviations amounted to 4.8%, the mean square
deviation to 3-8-3.6% (Table 2). It was found that with an
optimum annealing period of 10 minutes the accuracy of de-
termination is increased by the use of a crucible support
(suggested by A. V. Kuznetsova). There are 1 figure, 2 tables
and 1 Soviet reference.

ABSTRACT: At the 4. meeting held on the 4.3,1957 lectures were delivered
on the autoelectron emission.
1.) M.I.YELDISON showed that the present conceptions concerning
the moltEr effect process are not able to explain all known
experimencal facts. The lecturer suggested a new point of
vievr ( explained in detail in Radiotekhnika i Elektronika,
1957, Vol 2, Nr 1, P 75), which is based on an assumed
essential heterogeneoua potential distribution within the
dielectric plate.
2.) V.N.SBREDNIK dealt with measureugenta carried out concerning
the zirconium work function in tungsten.
3.) A.S.SOBOLEVA spoke about the investigation of autoelectron
emTs-sionin dependence on hydrogen pressure in a device con-
sisting of a flat anode and a conical or semispherical
cathode.
4.) V.A.SIMOINOV investigated the discharge process in the vacuum
Card 1/2 in the presence of a subignition spar1c.

5.) I.N.SLIVKOV desoribed the investigation of breakdo,= in the
vacuum in the case of flat and spherical steel electrodes.
6.) A.I.KLIKUT reported on the investigations in the electron
projector.
7.) G.A.BOGDA1,TOVSKIY spoke about the measuring of resistance on
a tungsten contact when opening the electrodes.

ABSTRACT. The tubes investigated differ in the design of the output terminal (0).
The latter has the shape of a slot wii i a strip line in the glass version, or of a
symmetrical crown in the metallic version. The following results were obtained:
1) in all the tubes, the dependence of frequency on voltage is of a linear nature.
Frequency changes can be made within a wide range. Measurements with a matched
load, yield oscillations of one made in tubes with pin type output terminals. Varia-

PERIODICAL: Zhurnal obsliclici khiniii. v. 32. no. 7, 1962, 2190-2193
TEXT: Tile reaction of trimethyl-methoxysilane with sod ittm aluminate in an aqueous solution leads, under
certain conditions. to the formation of a crystalline product, sodium bis-(triimethylsilyl)-aluminate. The
reaction mechanism is described as:
(CF13)3SiOCH3 + H20 :tz (CH3)3SiOH + CH30H
2(CH3).,SiOFI + NaAlO, --~ 1(CH3)3Si1202AIONa + H20
A side reaction of condensation of trimethyl-silanol into hexamethyl-disiloxane takes place.
The method of preparation of sodium bis-(trimethylsilyl)-aluminate, and the product obtained, results of its
structure determination by X-rays, its infra red spectrum, arid. its properties are given. it crystallises in the
form of needles. The birefringent crystals are light polarising; could not be fused, and carbonised when heated. J.

T:Ltl.e t Intensity distribution in spectral lines and the illumination of the
pectrograph aperture
Periodical s Izv-. AN SSSR. Ser. fiz. 18/2, 266-267, Ma~-Apr 1954
Abstract I A study of the intensity distribution in spectral lines of the ISP-22 spectro-
graph showed that uniform distribution within the lines, regardless of the
width of the aperture, can be obtained by sharp reflection of the condenser
lens source an the aperture of the spectrograph. Other illumination methods,
,re mentioned at which uniform intensity distribution can be achieved. The
basic condition appears to be the equality between the illumination and
collimator apertures. Further increase in the illumination aperture was
found to lead to the expansion of spectral lines and deterioration in the
quality of the spectrum.

ABSTRACT: The photoelectric method of spectra registration has
a number of advantages as compared with the photo-
graphic method, and is, therefore, extensively applied.
The spectrographs ISP-22 and ISP-28, produced in the
USSR, are the most popular in spectral analysis. One
of the causes of accuracy diminishing in the photo-
electric method is the instability of the spectra
position when changing the spectrograph component tem-
perature. The objective of this article is to re-
search the question of temperature influence on the
spectra position. The spectrograph prism is made of
quartz. The thermal coefficient of linear expansiDn
of quartz varies, depending on temperature; the same

Research of Heat Influence on the Spectra Lines Position in Spectro-
graphs ISP-22 and ISP-28
of quartz optical properties entail a variation of the
deviation angle (S) of the rays that go out of the
prism, and cause displacement of spectral lines on
the photographic plates. Dependence between the angle
(,P) and the increase of temperature (4t) is expressed
by formula dAA At It is to be noted that a
Tt- 0
regular displacement of spectral lines on the plate
takes place only at the uniform heating of the instru-
ment. An unequal heating of the spectrograph causes
an uncontrolled displacement of lines, which may lead
to errors in performing the spectral analysis. There
are 3 graphs, 3 tables, and 3 references, 2 of which
are Soviet and 1 German.

Title Investigation of catechin conversions during fermentation of tea by the.
method of paper-chromatography
Periodical Dokl. AN SSSR, 96, Ed. 6, 1205 - 1208, June 1954
Abstract Paper-chromatography was applied in the study of catechin conversions
taking place during the process of tea leaf fermentation. During the
fermentation of tea leaves the tennic complex is subjected to enzymatic
oxidation under the effect of polyphenoloxidase, This oxidation is
followed by an increase in molecular weight of the tannic acid and its
partial conversion into an insoluble form. Eighteen references. Table,
graphs .
