ABSTRACT: A description is presented of an input block of a two-group 110-channel
pulse-height analyzer (AAF-110), which makes it possible to obtain satisfactory and
stable analyzer characteristics in a wide range of counting rates, from the smallest
up to 105 counts/min. The analyzer is designed to operate in two modes: 1) normal
mode, i.e., the usual single-group mode, when the analyzer plots the pulse-height
spectrum of pulses entering the measuring input from some pickup; 2) two-group mode,
namely the mode of coincidence of measured pulses with control signals fed into two
independent control inputs. The input block is based on a normally blocked linear
transmission ciricuit, the idea of which consists in that the blocking current de-
pends linearly on the magnitude of the input signal. Tests of the analyzer with such
an input block yielded the following results: 1) the integral nonlinearity of the
amplitude characteristic was 1%; 2) the differential nonlinearity - unevenness of the

channel widths - was (1 - 2)%; 3) in the frequency range 100 cps - 100 kcs, the
parallel shift of the amplitude characteristic was less than one channel, and the
change in its slope likewise did not exceed 1%; 4) when the line voltage changed
by 10% from nominal, the shift of the position of the channel boundaries did riot
exceed 0.2 of the channel width. L. S. (Translation of abstract)

TOPIC TAGS: pulse generator, pulse height analyzer, pulse amplitude, stabilizer
ABSTRACT: The described generator is intended for checking and adjusting pulse-
height analyzers, and has an amplitude that is stable within 10-3 and can be regulated
in steps of 0.1%. The generator can operate either with external triggering by pulses
with regular or statistical distribution of intervals, or by self-excitation; under
certain conditions it can serve as a spectrum imitator. The generator consists of a
current stabilizer which produces a voltage drop across a calibrated resistor. The
magnitude of the current can be regulated manually or by means of a modulating signal.
A current gate iE~ connected between the stabilizer and the resistance. The circuit
is constructed with sixteen vacuum tubes. V. P. (Translation of abstract]

Abstract: The results frow investigations of the coals from

It is shown that the above-indicated coals are of

ABSTRACT: A study conducted from 1958 to 1962 is the first work on toxoplasmo.
sis occurring in parts of Uzbekistan, including Tashkent. The origin, nature and
signs of this disease are briefly described. Nine hundred fifty-nine individuals,
mostly adults, were examined for toxoplasmosis, mainly by complement fixation"
but also by hemagglutination and skin allergic reaction. Two hundred eighty-four
were found positive to a varying degree; 124 of these cases were suspected on the
l'basis of midwives' reports, 25 came from clinics for nervous diseases, 74 were
opthalmic cases, and 61 came from control groups. Out of 36 children 2-5 years
1of age with CNS disturbances, 19 gave a positive reaction and were obviously cases

of intrauterine infection. Despite'the high number of spontaneous abortions, still: 1:~,
births and genital birth defects in the women's suspect group, no direct Uhk
between -the number of such embryopathies and the presence of - toxoplasma anti-
bodies could be determined. Among the children in an institution for the blind,
2516 reacted positively. The presumably healthy control group contained as many
positive reactions as that of suspect cases (3976). Comparison of the various
detection methods revealed that complement fixation coincided 85% with hemagglu-
tination and 681o with the skin test. Treatment with chloridin (2,4-diamino-5-p--~
chlorophenyl-6-ethylpyrimidine) and sulfodimezirt is mentioned. The disease is
frequent in these southern regions, and only 1/3 of the population have undergone
complement fixation tests. Thus additional toxoplasmosis centers for examina-
tion and treatment are required. Orig. art. has, 2 tables

TRANSLATION: An attempt has been made to determine theoretically the forces!act-

gusts on the basis of the overloads which.,they cause.. Taking into-account that
the factors causing overloads can be oscillations, of-the balloon as well as.tur-

some point within the balloon, o5cillations of the radiosonde on the suspens Ion

(small Ri is a necessary condition for turbulence). There should be a minimum in ~the
distribution of Ri without turbulence at Ri values smzLIler than the critical value
because at small Ri there are no nonturbulent zones. Tor this same reason, the Prob

ABSTRACT: The possibility of predicting air turbulence on the basis of radio probes
is investigated. The e)-isting method based on turbulence observations by aircraft
which have passed through turbulent zones is not sufficiently reliable. The investi-
gation showed that the Yadio probe method of turbulence prediction is limited owing to
the sporadic nature of turbulence. Effective turbulence prediction would require a
minimum of 15-20 radio probes in an area of 100-200 km radius. The article presents
probability graphs of turbulence based on radio probe data. Orig. art. has: 2
