L 25340-65 ACCESSION NR: AR4046134 analysis of the photomultiplier output signal amplitude when the photocathode is illuminated by scintillation bursts from various crystal scintillators irradiated 1.by a standard gamma source* Experimental results served to establish a po@rly pronounced linear dependence of signal amplitude on temperature when a KI (TO crystal was used so a counter with the photomultipliers. FRU-13 and FEU-11B. This counter is recommended as insensitive to variations of environmental temperature within the range from -50 to +50C, (within 10% accuiacy). The tube is shLmted by a resistor whose circuit is closed through the relay con- tacts. The aecond pair of the relay contacts serves for cloning the external circuit. The time-delay is controlled and determined by the time oonstant of the RC circuit. The charge on the capacitor of that circuit manages to flow down to zero through the circuit of a complementary loop which ensures stability of operation. There is one figure. A. V. The least thermostable fams am those which lack fractions above 1200 and contain appreciable, amts. of less than decamtric units (salfite pulp and related forms). Other varieties of cellulose have Intermediate stability to beat. The most therm table thoft which yield aq. exts. with ptl MTS; pg"unde'r&b are progressively less thernuistabIt. the lower thelill of their cxts., while those yielding exts. with pH above 7.5 are ther- mostable but show Increasing yellowing on heating. Only the free It ions am Important in this cam, since the tons which are In an absorbed state do not effect thermostability as neither do Ca or At ions. A simple characterivtkinn of thermal stabilily In p4per is the ease of fracture on folding; the thermostatile varieties dti Mitch more resistant to crease cleavage. G. 7*11.
