ABSTRACT, In connection with the measuring of the characteristics, the time
needed for this purpose is of essential importance. A high degree of
accuracy as well of rapidity when measuring frequency-characteristics
is obtained by means of the frequency modulation method with the aid
of oscillographs. The authors are not of the opinion that these me-
thods are less accurate than those based upon point meaourement. The
present paper describes the construction of a device for the rapid
measurement of frequency characteristics; errors are investigated.,
and the block scheme of the device, which was developed between 1953
and 1955 in the laboratory of the USSR Academy of Sciences, is des-
cribed. Calculations show that in most of the cases under investiga-
tion the ccLmplex error committed when measuring the wireless trans-
mission co6fficient is negligibly small within the range of high

of 6 1cc/sec-1. Group propagation time is measured in accordance with
the method developed by Nyquist. The error which characteri7.Ss this
method,, together with that which is due to the rapid method of measur-
ing amounts to a total of less than 0,02tLsec in the case of most
broad-band objectz. The block scheme of the device is described. It
consists of two parts@ one for transmissionand one for reception.
The scheme of the transmitting part remains unchanged in the course
of measurements of all three characteristics-. The receiving part

,TRANSLATION: In order to obtain polystyrene scintillators in the form of granules
ranging in size from 0.1 to 1 mm, a granular polymerization method was selected.
The technicAl processes were found which make it possible to control particle size.,,,
A stainless steel reactor (l I in capacity) equipped with stirrer and reflux con-
odenser is charged with 133 g of styrene-and 2% p-terphenyl and 0.06% ROROR are
.introduced at 500 C. After complete dissolution, benzoyl peroxide and polyvinyl
.alcohol stabilizer solution are added. 150-500% water-is added. The mixture is

at 200 C and sieved to obtain the proper size fraction. The yield of granules is
in excess of 90%. The obtained scintillators will be used for measurement of radio-.

I@The laboratory procedure is described. The extent of substitution of surface
hydroxyl groups by organic radicals was found at less than 50% (C determination by
wet combustion). The material obtained was pressed into tablets for'infrared
inspection. The spectra were obtained and it was concluded that mainly.free
surface hydroxyl groups'participated in the modification reaction; the functional
ester and chlorine-containing groups surface radicals are hydrogea-bonded to the
remaJiiLng surface hydroxylz; and the most heat-imsistant radicals were those with
ester and chlorine-containing groups, allyl was less heat resistant. At the low

SOURCE& Fiftka tverdogo telap v. 89 no, 8j 19669 2455-2457
TOPIC TAGSt dielectric property, sulfate, glycine, ferroolectric crystal
ABSTRACTI The dielectric relaxation of triglycine sulfate (TGS) was studied over a
wide frequency range (102-1010 cps), and the relaxation spectrum was Analyzed. Two
regions of dielectric relaxation were observed. In the first (low-frequency) regiont
the increase of t' and tan i with decreasing frequency may be due to the fact that pro-
cess of reorientation of the domain@ begins to manifest itself even in low electric
fields. In the second region (105-10 cps), the relaxation spectrum is more diffuse
thag in the case of classical Debye relaxation, The relaxation time obtained was
10- - 5 x 10-7 see. The relaxation spectrum or the TGS crystals changes radically
when a bias electric field is applieds V and tan S decrease in a strong field
@Sb =: 7 kV/cm) and the spectrum becomes more diffuse. On the other hand, at Flb ::
0.02-0.04 kV/cm, tan f increases substantially (by a factor of 20-0 in some crystals)l
but the value of t:n JMPX does not remain constant and in 20-100 sea drops by 30-50%.
The increase of th dielectric loss of TGS in the vicinity of the domain relaxation at

a weak subpolarization is apparently due to the appearance of nuclei of now domains;
this leads to a more intense relaxation, since the concentration of domain walls in
'the crystal increases considerably. This explanation accounts for both the tim* in-
stability of the effect described and for its hystere3ta-type character. Orig. art.

Higher nervous activity was studied In 18 persons with a hititory of head injury,
most of whom were herniplegic and suffered from epileptic seizures. Tents used
were the verbo-motor conditioned reflex method of lvanov and Smolenski, the
verbo-verbal association method and the reproduction of a rhythm. Results were
interpreted according to pavlovian concepts. Defective fixation of conditioned
reflexes, decrease of active Inhibition and reduced mobility of cortical processes
were found In theme patlents. Surgical excision of the scar was followed by con-
siderable Improv*ments. Voiculescu Bucharest (1]. SO)
