TEXT: A so-called synchrophone is described in which the fluctuation
noise at the output of the measuring microphone Is'suppressed by the parallel
connection of two similar amplifiers to a sensitive element consisting of two
piezoelectric crystals. The two crystals are separated by a grounded plate, and
the amplified crystal signals are fed to a synchronous detector. The preserice
of two synchronous electrical oscillations permits the use of a simple correla-
tion method for suppressing the fluctuation noise. By this method a reference
voltage being synchronous with the signal (synchrophone principle) is obtained,
so that highly stable piezoelectric elements can be used as pickups at low sound

pressures. An Important requirement of the system is the linearity or transfor-
mation, but not so important is the degree of similarity of the piezoelectric
elements and the amplifiers. A calculation shows that the fluctuation noise lew
e1 at the pickup output can be lowered to 30 - 35 db. There is 1 figure.

APSTRACT: The assignment of the Schviarrerina horizon to the Upper
Carboniferous and not to the base of the Lower Permian
In the Gor1kiy-Volga region is more advisable in view
of the intimate f bunal relation to the underlying
pseudofusulinid horizon. The Ufa series is clearly
divisible Into two formations, of which the lower, the
"transitional series," is closely bound to the under-
lying evaporite sequence and should be considered as
belonging to the Lower Permian. Deposits of the Sakmara
Card 1/3 3tage, represented by light-colored dolordtes, 'are sub-

considerably thicker (up to 180 m in the Kirovskaya oblost), but
strongly eroded within the Alatyrl arch. It is distinguished from
the lower series by a predominance of bnhydrite and by a decrease in
dolomite. Pelecypods are the predominant type of fossil. Upword, a
breccia-liko sequence, 1 m or 2 m to 115 m thick, Is found, It
consists chiefly of dolomitic breccia. It is generally absent in the
southern part of' the Gorlkovsknyn oblost'. It is synchronous with
the transitional series of the Ufa sequence,

ABSTRACT: In the district of the autonomous region of Tuva salt lakes
and uources exist, as well as the salt deposit Tuz-Tag (salt
mountain) known since a long time in the southern spurs of
the western Tannu.,Ola chain, 16o km couthweat of the town
of Kyzyl (figure 1). A survey of publicationo and a short
description of the lakes and of the salt deposits are given.
(Refs 1-6). In the present paper the salt sediments of the
Tuz-Tag are described taking into account the potassium-
and other marine salts. In a chemical investigation consider-
able quantities of potassium chloride were found (up to 65 %).
Table I shows chemical analyses of some salt samples by means
of which it is to be seen that it concerns sylvinite with a
high 01-content. Furthermore, cores of borings carried out

is the most important alkaloid extracted from the plant Rau-
wolfia and is generally used in medicine. Recent reports
stated that there is a great number of simpler compounis,
possessing only a part of the structural elements found in

If this assumption is right, it must be ponnible to synthesize
relatively simply structured compounds ponaerning the above
mentioned properties of reserpine. Therefore the authors
synthesized 12 diAlkylaminoalkyl enters of 3,46-trimethoxy
bonzoic acid (11) differing as to tlo length of the carbon
chain between thq atomr, of oxygen rind nitrogen, as well as to
the substituents at the nitroj~en atom trable). All eaters apart
from (II)(n-3, R-R'-C211 5) were synthesized by the reaction of
equimolecular quantities of chloric anhydride of 5,4,5-trineth-
oxy benzoic acid (Ref 2) with the corre3ponding amino alcohol
in benzene medium. The bases, which vere easily obtainel in

tion.
