TEXT: A method basing on the use of simple notations is proposed
for the putting-up of programs for, the calculations on electric computers
with keys. It is pointed to the fact that such a program can easily be
translated into the language of electronic computers, An example for 'the
putting up of a program is given.

ABSTRACT; New concepts are introduced which characterise shear
derived for systems con-
sisting of material points and for a body with a continu-
own diAtribution of 'matter . Thaterms introduced here
for the shear motion show a formal similarity totba terms
relating to rotary movezent but are not derived from
those. The justification for introducimg the givVIL
a w terms was proved during the study of shear oscillations
r:ldsiva to a plane. The ahear oscillations relative to a
-ourfew can be described by Be new teriLe only an long as
they occur sufficiently as /g; if the shear surface can be

ABSTRACT: The idea'. of influencing the frequency of a piezoelectric crystal by a
stationary electric field for the purpose of standardization was first discussed by
Vilbig (Lehrbuch der flochfrequenztechnik Il,.Leipzig, 109, 1958). If an atiempt is
made to observe a vibrating piezoelectric medium ab,a system of dipoles (
oscillators) during a qualitative description of this effect (and only in first ap-
proximation), it is found that an electric* field polarizes this system and deflects I
-the trajectory of the oscillator somewhat from the original direction but neither
bends nor changes the directional force of the oBcillator. However, since the
resonance frequency of th6 oscillator changei (obviously' due'to the influence of
the interaction between the dipoles of the system), the directional force ko and
with it the frequency cu , must also change according to the equation

,The influence of a magnetic field on a system of harmonic oscillators is manifested:*
oin another way. Its influence causes not only another type of interaction between
.the oscillators (and thus a possible change in the material constants) but also a
change in the frequency of an oscillator which has been produced by the curvature of
:;its trajectory. The author studies the influence of a magnetic field on the fre- 1 -

The tiuclear fraction nf spleen homogenate with living cells caused some reduction
in mortality and had a Fayourabic cnect on the course of weight changes. Nuclei
were less ciTcctive than whole homogenate; however, mortalit)- was affected at a
difTerent thrie and regeneration of the spleen was riot accelerated by the nuclear
fraction. The cytoplasmic fraction had virtually no effect. Spleen extracts to some
extent accelerated regeneration of haematopoicsii and a return to normal weight,
but considerably less, than the whole homogenate. At the same time mouse spleen
i extracts bad a mildly toxic effect. The homogenatc is fully effective only if cells
are prcsent~ but the above experiments do not excludc the possibility of sicondary
effect by sti;Qant substances produced. by the cells.

If irradiated mice are injected with a suspension of spleen or bori e marrow cells.
regeneration of haematopoiesis is accelerated and sUrvival is inc:reased. In recent
years evidence has been accumulating that3he basis. of this protective effect is
transplantation of the injected haernatopoietic cells, which- proliferate in the irra-
diated organism. On using non-inbred animals, it was observed t 'hat the degree of
protection Was small and that death was only postponed. Since the authors assumed
that this was due to an immunity reaction, a comparison was made of the effective-
ness of spleen cells from young mice, ad4lt mice and from the animals' own
spleens, taken before irradiation. The resulti were evaluated according to survival..
body weight and the effect on haematopoiesis and DNA synthesis. ~!The material
from young animals had a temporary protective effect, that from~adult mice in-
creased mortality, although regeneration pf haematopoiesis and DNA synthesis
were also accelerated, while the material' from the animals' own; spleens had a
favourable effect in every respect. Since regeneration of haematopoiesis was also
accelerated on using foreign cells. a further qxperiment was carried out, in which
an attempt was made to identify them in reWnerating spleen: In the first part of the
experiment, spleen cells from splenectomized donors were injected into irradiated
intermediate hosts. A week later these were killed and a suspension prepared from
their spleens, part of which was reinjected into the original just irradiated donor
and part into another irradiated mouse. A protective effect was observed only in
the donors; the same suspension had no protective effect on other, mice. The results
indicate that the spleens of the intermediate hosts contained proliferating donor
haematopoietic cells.

ABSTRAC'T. Boxless-stack machine molding is described and is recom-
mended for small and medium-sized foundries, to save
opace. The advantages consist in a high annual yield
per square m of molding space, a high productivity of
the mac;hine, noiseless operation, maximum utilization
ef the equipment (due to double-sided extrusion), a ri-
nimum consumption of mold4ng mixture and metal, and the
lack of need for a large number of boxes, There are

Abstract: The initial data for the proposed method of plotting the charts
are harmonic constants of the tide-ebb flows, which make it possi-
ble to take into account all the basic factors affecting the
variations in the flow. The method of compiling the charts is
considered separately for regions having a mixed type of ti-dA
and for regions characterized by a predominance of the half:Lily
type of tide. Methods of calculations are given for the 2 above
cases. In principle, the schemes reduce to the perform ce of

ABSTRACT: This conference was held March 26 th _March 29 th at the
invitation of the Committee of Oceanography attached to the
Presidium of the AS USSR and of the Hydrometeoro-
logical Institute (Okeanograficheskanya, Komissiya pri Frezidiume
Akademii nauk SSSR i Gidrometeorologicheskiy institut). it
dealt with the problem of dynamic and thermal interaction of
the atmosphere and hydrosphere in the northern part of the
Atlantic Ocean (Atlanticheskiy okean); and with the evaluation
of the results of expedition work obtained so far as well as
with a lanation of the research work to be carried
precise exp
out in future. These problems were included --;n the program of
the International Geophysical Year. The following reports were
heard:
