petroleum product is placeid, When the plates are rubbed
-against each other the abrasive impurities in a given
petroleum product remove the dark oxide film from the
metal pla,-e. Since 1-he polished (light) area of the metal
plate is proportional.to the amount of the abrasive
admixtures, one car. plot a calibrated curve and determine
the concentration of the abrasive admixtures in petro-
leum products. The beat results are obtained when the

Abstract The improvement of the sulfuric acid process of olefin
alkylation by isobutane (I) in modern installaiions con-
sists in cooling the mixture after contacting and separa-
ting H2S04 in order to return it into the reactor, in

Preliminary notes on occupational derm~toses in a penicillin factory. The intra-
dermal test with penicillin was positive in 3.7501'e of those working in departments
where penicillin was handled but who had never presented skin lesions, whereas
positivity was observed in 16.6% of the workers who did present skin manifesta-
tions. This impl:es that not all of these skin manifestations were based on sen-
sitization to penicillin, the more so as a number of skin eruptions were observed
lit workt: rs who had lind no contact w Ith IWnIcillin. No skirt -sen.$ Itiz ing action of the
substances employed for the purification of penicillin (butyl alcohol) was demon-
strated by the tests. Most of the dermatsses originated in departments engaged In
assay anti crystallization of the antibiotic. In I case, the presence of Candida
albicans was demonstr---ted in rhinopharyngeal cultures; this is explained as a re-
sult of suppression of antagonistic microorganisms.

study of singlc-circuit regencrativa'and super-regenerative para-
rictric amplifiers with semiconductor diodes. The amplifier forward
and reflex oneration in a synchronous and biharmonic mode is consid-
ered. Results of the investigation into noise parameters of the

Abstract : WIth the determination in 75 patients of virus hepatitis
and in 25 patients of other diseases of the liver, an in-
crease was established of 7-35, and sometimes of 98%, in
the content of aldolase (an enzyme catalyst in the metabo-
lism of carbohydrates processed by the liver) in serum,
in the course of the second and thirl week of illness with
virus hepatitis. Determination of v.Ldolase is proposed as
a test for the differential diagnosis of epidemic hepati-
tis.

Abstract For Istudy of the effect of Y-rays on plants the Br'ookhaven
Laboratory (USA) used in nurseries a source with 1.5-4 curies
intensity, and on fields of 1 and 3.5 hectares - a source with
16-1800 curies intensity. The plant irradiation was conducted
during 20 hours of the 24; the remaining 4 hours were spent
in care of plants and-observation. Plants with very large
chromosomes are p.rticularly ensitive to irradiatim. Poly-
ploid species within the same family are less sensitive than
diploids. Under some irradiation dosages a growth stimula-
tion was observed in the garden snapdragon (Anthirrhinurn majus)
and hybrid Nicotiana, glauca x.N. Langsdorffii. The morpholo-
gical changes in roots, stems, leaves, buds and flowers are de-

A regional Conference on work. done in the field of gas-
flame metal working and eloctric-gas processes was oon-,
vened at Sverdlovsk from May 14 - 16 by VNIIA.vtogen, to-
gether with the welding section of the Sverdlovsk NTO sec-
tion of Yashprom, the Ural House of Engineering and the
Technical Adninistration of the Sverdlovsk sovnarkhoz.
About 200 representatives from Sverdlovsk enterprises and
other Ural and Siberian sovnarkhozes were present. The
Conference was opened by S. 1. Erikhaylov, Candidate of
Technical Sciences, with ar introductory rnport on pro-
blems relating to the improvement of gas-flarne working of
metals and new efficient processes connected with indu-
strial reorganization. The Conference then heard the fol-

ABSTRACT: A description is presented of a stroboscopic tachometer for measur-
ing 150 -9, 600 rpm or 2. 5 - 160 cps. The above range is subdivided into six sub-
ranges. Measurement error is + IS of the upper limit of the dial on each sub-
range. The tachometer can be operated continuously for eight hours, preserv-
ing its technical characteristics. Permissible power-supply voltage fluctua-
tions are +5%, -1596. Power consumption is about 100 watts. Dimensions:
350 x 230 x 2 10 mm; weight about 9 kg. The instrument consists of a master
oscillator, a forming device, a final power stage, and a power-supply unit.
i7he master oscillator is designed with 6Zh8 and 6P6S tubes, and has a two-
stage RC circuit with automatically stabilized amplitude - The forming device,
designed with 6N9S and 6N8S tubes, converts sinusoidal voltage into repteakular
pulses with a controllable pulse duty factor. The final power stage is designed
