glaucoma in 6 families: apparent autosomal recessive, sex-controlled
transmission; magalocornea. in 8 individuals of 3 generations in 1 family
looks dominant in relation to glaucoma; relationship between the conditions
is not clarified. Definitely confirmed hereditary glaucoma forms 6.5% of
author's cases; carrier characteristics are unfortunately as yet elusive
but eugenic measures are advocated - ban consanguineous marriages, study
somatic signs of heterozygosy. Six family trees; 24 Western references.

Abstract L,'A-uthors' English summary modifieg: The authors analyze
the indications, operative techniques and results in exente-
ration of the orbit carried out in 83 patients over a ten-years
period(1955-64). Basic indications of the disease were connected
with different malignant processes whose evolution did not permit
other operative and therapeutical procedures. Most of the pa-
tients had had this tumor for over a year and many of them more
than ten years. Visual acuteness was limited to amaurosis or
light projection. Increased sedimentation was noted in 50% of
the cases. The reaction of the urine to melanin and melanogen
was negative. More than 50% survived the operation up to 2 years,
12 up to 5 years, and only 6 survived over six years. The radical
exerteration with the removal of eye-lids should always be carried
out.' In most cases blood transfusion and X-ray treatment are ne-

Abstract [English article]: Studies with CaEDTA (Hosatil Tabloids,
-S Gin. /24 h. once, urinary Pb polarography and urinary
coproporphyrin spectrophotometry in 29 printers and 18 Pb smelters:
avera.-e values were 0.236 and 0.2476 -* 1.233 mg. Pb/24 H. Urinary
excretion over 0.34 mg. Pb/24 h. is considered pathognomanic of lead
poisoning in this type of provocation test, and contraindicates any
further work exposure. Controls twice yearly are advisable in

as a control group. Three male rats were killed and examined every
othor day@ Me lead deposited in the testes of the rats proved to be
not 9-it-, i-ely proportional to the amount included in the food, viz.,
0,0&2-1. milligrams to 0.0188 milligrams as against 0.0013 milligrams in
tIao control group. No pathoanatomical changes were found in any of
V'he organs of the rats. Pathohi-stological changes occurred only with
an intake of 800 or more milligrams of Pb(NO 3 ) per 100 grams of food.
No reproduction occur-ted within 45 days when m3les thus giv-an lead
nitrates were paixed with females (whether treated with lead nitrates

Abstract : Review of the literature of treatment of corneal pannus with the
subconjunctival injections of (cadaver) vitreous humor and report about 20
patients treated 1960-61; 10 to 12 injections of 0.3 to 0.5 cc. each (every
few days): little objective corneal change but pronounced improvement in
decrease of photophobia, blepharospasm, lacr@mation. Corneal surface
lesions did epithelialize in 5 of the patients; however, any effects are
considered merely placebo response. One Soviet and 3 Western references.

Abstract: Bismuth-subnitrate causes subjective iiaprovement of
diYfi ties in 85,5% of cases. The value of acidity after therapy
decreases jn '2/3 of the patients and pepsin in one-half of
them. This difference is the result of the weaker effect of bis-
muth therapy on pepsin, on the creation of proteolysis. 1,11ith
tegard to the eventual effect of bismuth-subnitrate, the administra-
tion of the bismuth-subcarbonicum should be decided upon and
ther,W should be extended. Effect of bismuth treatment on anacid
ulcers is shown more in the absence of-.the irritation factor of food
than in connection with pepsin. No references.
