ABSTRACT: The magnitude of the calculated load in stressed wedge
joints cannot be determined by simply summarizing the
forces of the preliminary spanning and the external
load, since the increase of forces with external loads
depends on the ratios of the rigidity magnitudes of
the parts to be connected. The authors present formu-
lae for the magnitude of the residual. spanning force,
the magnitude of calculated load and the magnitude of
preliminary spanning. The complicated configuration
of such joint elements and the character of their de-
formated state present difficulties for solving the
resilience of these elements by analytical methods.
In this connection, experimental investigations were
conducted, permitting the suggestion of simple empiric

parts. The experimental arrangement is shown in figures.
4 to 8, using a 20-ton tearing machine. The magnitudes
of calculated deformations and the deviations from ex-

TITLE: Some investigations of the antifriction properties.of rubber

TEXT: e authors present the investigation results of resistance to wear
of the rubber grades 8075 (Shore hardness = 70-80), 1626 (shore hardness = 50-65)
and ffF--41 (PG-41), workinj in couples with bronze or brass. The tests were
carried out on the AE-5 (AYe-5) friction machines operating on the principle of
friction of three cylindrical specimens by their face ends on a rotating wheel,
which makes it possible to carry out the tests under boundary lubrication condi_
tions. Lubrication was effected with runni= water at room temperatiire, the
specific load being p - 2-18 kg/cm2, sliding speed v = 0.5-4.0 m1sec. The metal
resistance to wear was established by :-thq weighifig method after testing for 50
and 100 hours respectively. The coefficient of friction @L was'also-determihed.
The soft rubber grades 1626 and PG-41 wear out the NC6-6-3 (OTsS 6-6-3)bronze
grade to the least extent (this grade being the softest of the tested metals).
The 1626 rubber grade is highly worn by OTs 10-2 bronze. The hard 8075 rubber

grade causes a lesser wear of the surfaces in contact, A direct dependence betseen
the wear and magnitude " does not exist, but lower /1-4 values correspond to lower
wear magnitudes. With an increase of the specific load " drops, but at a speed
of v = 5 m/sec it could be observed that 1A did not change with an increased load.
An analysis of the profile recordings indicates a running in of the metal surface
rubbing on the rubber. Low sliding speeds (0.5 m/sec) are characterized by high
JA, values. The authors present also the methods and results of testing rubber
bearings with water lubrication on a special pendulum machine. There are 3
figures.

ABSTRACTt Reference is made to the articles by Ya.D.KATS, Stall, 1956, Nr 6
and the suggestion that the production of works be expressed in tons,
taking in 11 o account the operation efficiency, is considered to be
correct. he use of the coefficients proposed by KATS, which are de-
termined by the volume of labor, is possible only in few cases.
The conversion coefficients indicate only by how much the production
ef one unit in one line of production surpasses that of another.
he labor volume also depends on whether one man or several personag
ne unit of machinery or several are engaged in production process.
hese conditions may change the entire situation. H6r is it possible
to start from the wage tarifft from working prescriptions or from
operational planning. It is therefore suggested that the conversion
coefficients be calculated according to the actual conditions in
the different lines of production, and the working prescriptions
according to the technical specifications of the basic line of pro-
duction together with the conversion coefficients. (2 tables and

ABSTRACT: The authors give data for 1952 - first quarter of 1956 on
rolling mill idle time through absence of heated metal and
blooming-mill productivity for the imeni Petroyskiy Works (Zavod
imeni Petrovskogo), showing steady improvements (Table 1). They
also diqc,,zss crane utilisation (Table 2) and the practice adopted
by se- -.or operators (Z.D. Klimenko, I.I. Khmell, K.A. Koshevoy
and I"-1. Klyachko) for crane operation, for securing the uniform
feeding of the mill stands and for heating the metal. The
authors estimate that blooming-mill productivity can be raised
by 5-6% by adopting progressive soaking-pit operating methods.
The soaking pits at the works consist of one group of regener-
ative and three groups of recuperative pits. There are 1 figure
and 2 tables.

Abstract : The kolkhoz "Ogorodnik," Kostromskiy Rayon, Kostromakaya Oblast occupies
a stand in the "Veterinariya i Zootekbn1ya" pavilion of the All-Union
Agricultural Exhibit. It depicts the advantages of rearing young animals
in unheated buildings. Young ani-I thus reared become acclimatized to-
cold early in life and have high resistance to various diseases. Young
animals am given an injection of 30cc of serum against paratyphoid and
colibacillosis. Nine days later these animals are vaccinated vith formol.
vaccine; a second vaccination with fo=ol vaccine in given 3 days after
the first. Serotherapy and vaccine therapy are usually supplemented with
sintomycin, penicillin, and vitamin therapy. Illustrations.
