TITLE: Purification of coke oven gas and its long-distance
transportation under pressure
PERIODICAL: Koks i khimiya, no.2, 1963, 33-35
TEXT: In July 1961 the first installation for the a
purification of coke-oven gas under pressure and its long-distance
transportation was commissioned on the Yasinovka Coking Works.
According to the present temporary scheme the gas is compressed
to 3.5-4.5 atm g., in future according to the permanent scheme it
N: will be compressed to 16 atm.&.. In the paper the present
operation of the purification plant is outlined and some
deficiencies in its design are tizientioned. According to the
temporary scheme the gas is compressed by two two-stage six-
cylinder compressors type 6-)n K-2 (6-EPK-2). After sulphur
scrubbing the gas is passed into the first compression stage from
which under pressure of 2.2-2.5 atm.g. it passes in parallel lines I
into two absorbers for preliminary naphthalene removal. From
there it enters the second compression stage. Under a pressure of

3.5-4.5 atm.g. it goes through a benzole absorber, an absorber for!
the final removal of naphthalene and an absorber for the removal i
of hydrogen sulphide. The purified gas is passed to a drying
absorber and into the pipeline leading to a nitrogen fertiliser
plant for consumption (distance 35 km). Absorbers are of typical
design; height 18.5 m, diameter 220 cm, number of plates 15.
For preliminary removal of naphthalene and benzole absorption a
debenzolised creosote oil from the by-product plant in used and
for the final removal of naphthalene, fresh petroleum absorption
oil. Hydrogen sulphide is scrubbed with regenerated potassium
hydroxide from the sulphur purification plant of the works. The
drying of gas is done with diethyleneglycol. The initial
naphthalene content of gas 30-35 g/m3 is removed as follows:
28.4% in the first compression stage (compressor oil), 50.0% in
the preliminary purification stage, 7.45@-Q' in the second
compression stage, 10.5% in the final stage, 3.7% in the drying
stage. The maift deficiencies of the installation are:
insufficient flow of creosote oil in the preliminary stage of
naphthalene iemoval (this was increased); too high temperature

of regenerated potassium hydroxide causing low efficiency of
sulphur removal and increasing moisture in gas; high losses of
diethyleneglycol with gas. The latter was remedied by
increasing pressure to 6-7 atm.-g.

TEXT: In a number of individual articles under the above common heading
new tool and fixture designs are described. Firstly, a grinding wheel dresser
designed by K.G. Zyandrikov is mentioned, consisting of the housing and, fixed
to it, the rotating disks foi@ the dressing of abrasive wheels. Inside the hous-
ing a screw is mounted intended for the feed of the head towards the grinding
wheel. The dresser is mounted on the drm rest and clamped with the aid of a
slide. The design of-a new cutting-off tobl'by turner I. K. Yevseyev was recom-
mended to be introduced in industry by the Moskovskiy gorodskoy sovnarkhoz (Mos-
cow City Sovnarkhoz). Instead of one cutting edge this tool has two or three ar-
ranged.at an angle of 900 and another one of I mm width between them. This new
cutting-off tool operates -nt speeds of 350 m/min and feeds of up to 0.35 mm/rev.
It is particularly suitable for the cutting off of parts from aluminum, stain-
less and heat-resistant steels and titanium. Next, a sintered carbide profile

ABSTRACT:- The authors note that self-oacillalAng modes may develop in automatic
control systems for various reasons, one of th6sid' being the presence of free play In the
kinematic couples and in thd articulations of tfii@ Im6chanical systems and tranentesions. A
typical example of a system of this type Is a hydraulic servo device with play in the food-
'back circuit. The purpose of the present invoittgation was to determine the conditions 'A
that ensure the suppression of such auto-oscillations. Oa the other hand, the authors
point to proposals involving the effecient utilization of this effect, in which cage the
problem consists of determining the parmeters which provide the optimum vibro-impect

mode. Specifically, the authors consider the symmetrical periodic self- orscill ating
modes of motion, daring the course of which there are completed, In a single period, two
impacts alternately of the left and right cavities of the kinematic couple which has the free'
play. They have observed that the effect of a non-linear element of the "play" type is
generally estimated by approximate methods, in which case either no consideration is
given to the masses of the bodies articulated with play, or a case involving nonelasU

impact is considered. In the present paper, the inertial properties of the system are

taken into account, with the effect of the impacts characterized by a reduction factor.
The periodic mode is studied and equations are obtained for the motion of a slide valve `4

and piston under specific conditions set forth in the article. Ile stability of the auto-
oscillations is analyzed, the method of Investigation being based on the method of finite
differences. When conducting the study with this method, distrubances are determined
at specific moments of time at several characteristic positions of the system; for example,
at the moments of impact. By using the equations for the disturbed motlon and aligning
them during impacts, the relation between disturbances is found after two analogous
Impacts. These relationshipi form a system of finite-difference equations. The motion
of the system will be stable if, as the number of impacts increases, all disturbances

tend toward zero or, which is the same thing, if all solutions of the equation system tend
toward zero with an unlimited Increase in the argument. In this way, the stability
investigation resolves to an analysis of a finite-diffeirence equation system. Orig. art.

TITLE: Thermoelectric instruments of high sensitivity
PERIODICAL: Byulleten' tekhniko-ekonomicheskoy informatsii, no. 2, 1962, 29-31
TEYT: The author reports on a number of new multirange h-f thermoelectric
instruments that have been developed in 1961 by the "Vibrator" Plant of the
Leningrad Sovnarkhoz: The T130 and T131 millivoltmeters, the T132 voltmeter and
the T133 microammeter. The characteristic features of the new thermoelectric
instruments are: high sensitivity, high overload capacity and comparatively
high input resistance of the millivoltmeters and voltmeter. Only the initial
section of the volt-ampere characteristic of the vacuum thermopile is used.1n
the instruments, therefore, the maximum current passing the heater amount:@ to
only 1W.' of the rated thermopile current. To amplify the low thermo-emf obtained,
a d-c photoelectric amplifier is placed at the thermopile output. The readings
are indicated by an indicator of magnetic-electric system which is connected to
the photoamplifier output and is graduated in the current or voltage units being
measured. The structural instrument units are standardized to a maximum. The

basic units of each instrument are: a TBGO (TVB) vacuum thermopile of adequate
rating, r" 11'Ttj (F 11-(/7) photoelectric amplifier, measuring range switch,
stabilized ;3upply transformer and M265 indicating microammeter of 90114amp.
The instruments differ from each other only by their input units, including the
vacuum -thermopile and a stepped voltage divider (or a shunt unit for the micro-
ammeter). The author presents the block diagram of the multirange T133 micro-
ammeter and describes its operation. He points out that these new instruments
show an increased sensitivity to current and voltage, viz. up to 10OAtamp as to
current and up to 30 mv concerning voltage. They make it possible to increase
the voltmeter input resistance to 10 k-ohm/v, reduce the resistivity of 1-mamp
milliammeters to 60 ohm and to increase the overload capacity of the given
thermoinstruments up to a factor of 10. The following table shows the technical
specifications of the new thermoelectric instruments:
